Anyone got / had a supercharged Jag?
Discussion
Well, bored of the shed now and it has served its purpose (4 months of motoring while I figure out what I want!). Noticed that Jaguar XJR's are fantastic value at the moment with early V8's going for just over £10k! I mean, 370 horses and leather seats - cant be bad!!! :hehe:
The only thing that worries me is the fuel consumption. Anyone had experience with this, and what they get? I get a consistent average of 28MPG from the shed, but my maths has worked out that I can let this drop to 24-26MPG without it hurting too bad.... is this possible out of a supercharged Jag?
I am suspecting that 20MPG is the average - which is a shame..... anyone got one or had one in the past?

Yeah, thats the strange thing though - I am not sure that the Parkers figures are correct! Mine is :

and it says 23MPG.... but its a strict 28MPG average on the tank. Even hits 30MPG at a steady 80 on the motorway. Which is in line with what I would expect, and what other owners get.... so someone is wrong somewhere - and it isnt my car being some super economical motor!!!

i have a 99 xjr. i have never bettered 20mpg in it.
370 bhp and an itchy foot.
i try to avoid looking at the trip computer now. its a great car if you can get a good one, great post on the jag forum by someone who did all the homework for you, might have to look at a few pages to find it but he has the definitive guide.

Hi Off,
The later supercharged 4.2's with 6 speed box seem to have better fuel consumption than the 4.0's. Also for some strange reason since having mine modified by Racing Green the fuel consumption has improved on the S-Type R. I average around 22 in the UK on my daily commute - and I do use it quite hard. 18-19 was a worst case on a flat out trip across Germany and a few laps of the Ring. On a recent "gentle" run abroad - cruise control set at 145kmph it actually averaged 26.1mpg. Hope that helps.
Cheers,
LB

Given the news from the US Gulf coast in the last few days and the hike in petrol prices expected across the world.
I expect prices on used petrol jags to fall. Just check ebay already full of soverigns and XJ's at knockdown prices.
With jaguar now having a diesel in the X,S and XJ range, trying to sell the petrol equivalent is not going to be easy in the coming months.
Plenty of bargains if your wallet can face the running costs at the pumps
