Hi fellow Jag enthusiasts.

Would like your opinion on what colour you think best suits a XF Sportbrake. I’ve put a order in for the new P300 AWD model, most options ticked, really excited as I’ve always wanted one and now I can finally afford it.

The colour pallet is somewhat diminished from a few years ago.

I’ve gone for British Racing Green with Tan leather, it can be a changed as the car takes 9-12 months to make.

Am I being a traditionalist or is this still a cool colour?

I chose Tan over Cream as I thought it would wear a bit better.

Other colours I like are the Portofino blue and to a lesser extent the Carpathian Grey, there are a lot of grey cars on the road though.

Anyhow what’s your thoughts, good or bad?

BRG with tan is exactly how I would spec it, looks very cool to my eyes.

Fairly tough decision between the tan and cream, but I've had a fair few cream interiors but never tan (and have always quite fancied it) so I think that would swing it.

Hope the wait isn't too painful for you!

1 nill to tan then. Thanks for your advice and input.

Yeah it’s a long wait indeed but will be worth it in the end.

I also am not fond of the cream steering wheel, although not a deal breaker, I wonder if it will age well!?

OP that is lovely, suits the black alloys as well..

Green is such an underrated colour, and always tan rather than cream....

Dont change a thing....

Another vote for the green and tan! The Sportbrake looks really smart in BRG (if that picture is anything to go by).

Well this is promising, thank you. The love for BRG is still real, great news.

Another vote for yes, i think the tan is beautiful, the green is great with the black wheels and makes a change from the usual dark grey/black

I'm a fan of black wheels i know many people aren't but it's a great visual trick so you can run on higher profile and hence more comfortable tyres

out it this way, if i was looking for one second hand i'd be all over it

I hear you on all aspects. I like your trick about black wheels and higher profile, that makes a lot of sense.

Chosen a diamond cut wheel, reason being they are the most expensive, if I don’t like them I can sell them and buy the black wheels which are a lot cheaper. Diamond cut wheels are a nightmare once the lacquer goes on them and white worm sets in, so your option maybe be my end game.

Cheers

You've made the right choice. If I could use a car like this I would get one too. Looks brilliant.

Thank you, this is great news. I can finally use a car like this, I’ve waited ages to get one and finally my wallet and business allows it, stars aligned.

I have been running through that configurator a lot and green & Tan is the result every time.

Perfect fit for the car, classy and timeless.

Quite like the blue on mine though :P

Think they will stop making them around mid 2024, such a shame as it’s a awesome car, if it was hybrid petrol people would be lapping them up. But as always the German cars win. In every review I’ve watched they have said it beats the 5 series touring for driving dynamics, praise indeed.

And looks wise, imo it knocks the BMW out the park, it’s stunning and very British, ohh and it’s about 10 to 15 percent cheaper than a like for like BMW with similar residuals.

I guess people just don’t know they are still being made as Jag has gone full electric and doesn’t care for ICE anymore, sad!

What colour blue do you have? What model is it?

2018 / 19MY X260 25t, In ceasium blue - It's a bit brighter and more exciting than the blue they have on the latest facelift.

Very nice, yes the colour palette is somewhat diminished now. Portofino blue is nice but it’s a bit doom blue. I test drove a saloon p300 in a lovely blue but unfortunately they don’t make that colour anymore, I’d have probably had that colour.

So your engine is the 250bhp? Find it adequate for the job?

Adequate yes, exciting no - Once you're loaded up with a few people, you can feel it start to strain, however nothing too awful.

I wouldn't say it's the best engine in the world - It can be a bit agricultural for a petrol especially considering it's a Jag engine, but it smooths out nicely once you're going - It isn't the most exciting to chase redlines either, and tends to feel a bit out of breath after ~5K once you've left the torque band - What it does do very well however is give plenty of low end torque for a relaxed (And at times relatively quick) waft.

There is a plugin tuning device by TDI that claims to take the 250BHP -> 308BHP, which doesn't seem unrealistic given the commonality - I have considered it a few times but I haven't bothered yet.

I have had a couple of minor niggles with the car, Both known / recalled and would be addressed on a new one - Variable timing actuators which I DIY Replaced for £60 in an hour, and a hovercraft-esque constant fan run caused by a fault in the water pump programming - Did ask jaguar to update at MOT Time but they didn't bother, so I'll have another innings elsewhere smile

A relaxed waft is what I’m after. One thing I did notice was how quiet it was inside. Test drove the p300 and it was plenty fast enough for me 0-60 is 5.8.

Like you I looked at tuning, can get 350bhp from it with just a chip. Probably free up the engine a bit too.

So overall you seem happy I take it? Reliability seems strong on these cars, 7th over all for jag in the jd power survey!
