F-Type V8 R gearbox oil service schedule?
Discussion
Hello All,
I'm looking at picking up a 2017 V8 R model, have phoned Jaguar main dealers about the service schedule but it's hard work.
Does anyone know the service schedule?
There's some bad info' going around online showing s/c belt at 6 years, but Jaguar said it's definitely 9 years.
Then they said the rear locking diff change oil at 4 years but don't change the gearbox oil as it's sealed for life on locking diff models?
Doesn't make sense to me, can anyone confirm please? It's just that I want the selling garage to do the correct 6 year service.
Thanks

Hmm taped in the one for my 2011 XKR and it records no services logged. It was main dealer for earlier years so I don't think you can rely on this link for a definitive answer.Per answers above OSH will have the official Jaguar service schedule (needs VIN), but as Norton points out, the gearbox is not a service item.
Any JLR indie will do a gearbox service, 70k miles is about right, the S/C service is also worthwhile but a bit of a pain. You may as well get them done together.

Yes, the gearbox is sealed for life….that is the lifespan of the gearbox.
To elaborate, in an effort to reduce service costs, Jaguar DO NOT recommended ever changing the oil or the oil filter on the gearboxes, with the inevitable catastrophic results once the vehicle is (usually) out of warranty, (don’t ask me how I know this ) Whilst the manufacturer of the gearboxes recommends changing the gearbox oil & filter every 25’000 miles.
Personally, I’d be looking to get that gearbox oil & filter changed asap, along with all other oils and filters.
Whilst your having the gearbox oil & filter changed, I’d suggest taking a good look at the gearbox cooler pipes, as these are certainly a weak point of the XJs, leading to coolant mixing with the gearbox oil, again with predictable and expensive results.

Do you have any evidence to back up that assertion? It sounds odd to me.
A couple of years back when I was having the gearbox issues with the XJ, someone had posted a copy of either a service bulletin or an email from the manufacturer of the gearboxes, (ZF?) on one of the Jaguar forums. As to the legitimacy of the post in question, I can’t say, but then I’ve always done engine oil and filter every 5000 miles and diffs / transfer cases and gearboxes every 30’000 miles anyway. I just got unlucky with my XJ by leaving the gearbox service slightly longer than I should have after buying it.
The way I see it is so long as the correct oils are being used and the correct procedures are being followed to carry out the gearbox service, you certainly aren’t going to do any harm.
What will cause harm, expensive harm, is taking the advice of Jaguar and never changing the gearbox oil and filter.
