What part of Europe are you planning to visit and how long? If you're visiting for > 2 months, I advise you to get winter tyres but if its only for a holiday, chains are best. Be aware that in Germany, if you are driving for an extended period of time over here, then you'll need to get Winter tyres as the Authorities can get tough if you have an accident/incident and you're not using the correct tyres. Main roads (Motorways and major B roads) are treated (not salt but a sand/fine grit compound) but other roads are not always. Usually, there are signs to tell if a road has been treated. Winter tyres are usually fitted to cars between October and March/April.

Marque,

Pirelli do a single winter tyre for the XK.

It is the 'Winter Snowsport' and only comes in one size - 245/45 R18

Would be an expense for a holiday though, esp if you already have chains

Thanks..will get on the jag owners forum soon..for the time being i think that i will just keep a eye on the level of rubber left on the rears running up to xmas and if i feel that they are approaching the wear bars,i will change em but prob not for winter specific tyres..as have the chains for emmergency.

regards
