Hi All
I’m sure this has been covered so apologies in advance.
I need to change the rear pads on my XF I have a tool to back off the pistons but cannot get the car to back off the E brake
I have tried a few different methods I found on the net but nothing seems to work.
Can anyone please tell me the method to put the rear brakes into maintenance mode please

If it's the same as the first generation XF (plus all other Jags of that era) then you don't need to put the brakes in service position to change the pads. You'd only need to do that if disconnecting the parking brake cable from the caliper and there's no need for that if changing the pad. Undo the brake fluid reservoir and if necessary extract some fluid with a turkey baster into a jar then wind the piston in. Change the pads, reassemble, do the other side then top up with fluid once you've repressurised the brakes.

Unfortunately there is no cable it’s all electronic. It’s different to the mondeo based early XF. I had one of those and the pads were easy to change.
On the internet is says about pushing the brake button down for two seconds then the accelerator for two seconds then turn ignition on and off. It does nothing on my car.
I think I need an expert or a OBD reader
Thanks your thoughts

I think when I did mine there was a simple trick like leaving the drivers door open while you complete the job so it doesn't automatically apply the handbrake. I know I didn't have to put the car in service mode or anything complicated like that as I'm a hopeless technophobe.

I found out how to do it on a google search, so you should be able to find it.

Hopefully
Ive found the solution, it appears the sequence differs from model and year. I found an online owners manual for my car. The sequence for a 2018 xf sport brake is:
Turn engine on
Put car in neutral
Press brake button down
within 5 seconds turn ignition off
That’s it I was able to push the car so handbrake off.
Next issue I foresee is calibration once Ive changed the pads.
Ive seen something about disconnecting battery and pumping brakes whilst turning brake on and off
Hopefully that will work
