That does look nice, the end of an era, sigh...
This one went last week, that's got to be good value for some lucky punter.

I think thats a perfect validation of the X350 . In 2003 , the usual turnips most whom would never own nor even drive one carped about stale design and wooden dash blah blah blah . I think even their staunchest critics back then would have to " doff the cap " at how well the car has aged over the intervening years .This one went last week, that's got to be good value for some lucky punter.

Is it cheating if I say X308? The X350 has aged incredibly, like a fine wine it has just got better, a bit like the XJS too I think.
At the time I think even many Jag fans, myself included, felt that the Ford habit of using focus groups had failed to plan for the future. I wrote a long piece here at the time about how I felt these focus groups had said
Look we love the XJ, just don't touch it OK, we love it
...
but
...
You couldn't make it a bit higher could, coz my old knees can't get in and out of the XJ like they used to and if it stays this low I'm going to have to trade my XJ for an old man's 5 series because old knees can manage to get in and out those.
...
Oh and could we have some room inside please
I love my XJ but when I take the grandkids in the back they don't fit now, them youngsters are growing so tall these days.
...
etc.
So the result was a stretched XJ.
It looked a bit staid then
It looks great now.
On the other hand they rode beautifully. I was impressed at the launch, I was really impressed when I spent a week driving one around northern California. You could see the pock marked freeway stretching off in front of you and yet the ride was magic carpet like. I was even more impressed when I drove Thunderbird (the one which shared the platform with the S-Type) over the same roads a few weeks later and realised just how good the XJ had been.
I suppose my next question is whether this is going to best £51,000 and if so by how much ? I have to say I prefer the other Car .
