I've started getting that feeling that always ends with me changing my car, and I've always wanted an F-Type. I don't really fancy running one out of warranty so if I do purchase one that isn't already a Jaguar approved used car is it possible to take out a Jaguar warranty on it? If anyone has done it what have the costs been and any limits on age/mileage?

As far as I am aware you can only extend an already existing Jaguar 3 Year Warranty . I have a few longstanding Jaguar owning friends who all have the above Jaguar Warranty from the RAC and all really rate it .

You can take out the jaguar extended warranty at any time on a vehicle less than 10 years old or 100k miles, though the dealer will check it over first and insist that any faults found are fixed first.

After 10 years they only offer a very limited warranty, when I looked at this it limited any single claim to £3K and as they wanted about £1K for the warranty it wasn't worth it IMHO. I want a warranty to cover seriously expensive failures not minor ones.
While my Jags have been much more reliable than SWMBO's Mercs the Mercedes warranty is much better in this respect. If you pay monthly for the Mercedes one it just keeps on going as long as you keep on paying. Her car would have gone to the big scrap heap if it wasn't for this fact as it has had some big things covered in the last couple years. The Mercedes warranty is also much cheaper.
I prefer my Jag, but the warranty situation if you like to keep you cars isn't great.

I never knew any of this but to be honest Ive nearly always bought Jaguars that are out of Warranty . One of the F Types went back under Warranty for a lifting door trim and it was an abysmal experience . Getting back to the OP and the worries about buying an F Type without Warranty , my feeling is that I would only really be worried about one aspect and thats Bodywork . Maintenance and History along with the Previous MOTs are easily checked , the various Powerplants are relatively trouble free so personally |I wouldn't find making a purchase any more problematic or worrisome than an X150 .

Thanks for the help all. I’m inclined to either get an approved used or find one outside the Jag dealer network I can put an approved warranty on. This is something to tick off the bucket list for 2-3 years so I’m fine paying for the warranty for this period for peace of mind. If I was going to be buying multiple cars I’d be happy to go without the warranty and let the costs ‘average out’
