Not sure what to do, looking for a f type convertible seen a 15 plate awd R 20,000 miles at £40,000 (6 month dealer warranty)and a 13 plate rwd S with 40,000 miles for £30,000 (12 month Jaguar approved warranty) to me the mileage difference does not matter but to anyone who as owned/driven both do you think the extra £10,000 is worth it?

Hi, I can’t really give you any specific advise, but I bought a 2014 V8S a year ago and love it, but have a bit more cash now so am seriously thinking about selling it and buying a V8R as I like the idea of the extra power and AWD

£30k for a V8S sounds great value as mine will be quite a lot more than that………a 2014 with a really good spec and in my opinion it’s one of the best looking around

I’d be really interested in the thoughts of all.

About to sell the Griff and love the idea of the 500+ awd. However not convinced that I’d notice the benefit over the 2wd in the real world.

Thus also looking at the XKR convertible, which maybe looks better (?) and is more of a gt.

Is the extra 50 bhp really noticeable when the weight is taken into account for convertible on real roads?.

HNY all.

I would also be interested in any opinions on this topic. Looking for a V8 convertible in a similar ballpark this year.

Youtube reviews seem to suggest RWD is a bit more fun, not necessarily to be lairy but better steering and more 'lively'. That said, with the amount of torque on offer and wanting to drive in all conditions (except snow) maybe AWD is the way to go...

Values of these appear to be in freefall in trade auctions, although private sellers all think that theirs is worth 50% more than retail because "reasons", so the prices you've seen are about right. Don't expect that depreciation to stop though.

With respect to S or R I suppose it really depends on if you want RWD lolz or AWD point and squirt and straight light heroics. I would say that my experience of the OEM Dunlop tyres is that they are probably what has given supercharged Jaguars a reputation for swapping ends at random, so if the car comes with them throw them immediately in the bin, they're like Linglongs in the rain.

I've not driven an AWD F-Type but I did drive an AWD XE a couple of years ago, having driven a number of RWD XEs before that. I would say it does feel like the dynamic edge of the chassis is dulled somewhat. All of those cars were 2.0 petrol or diesel automatics though, on a ~500bhp petrol it might be a different story, and the F-Type chassis is nothing like as dynamic as the XE in the first place. </controversial opinion>

I have a 5.0 XKR with the ECU remapped with the XKR-S software, around 550bhp and nearly 500ft/lb torque, so pretty close to the F-Type R in terms of powertrain and chassis (F-type is essentially a shorter, wider XK chassis). It will get lairy if you're silly with it but neither model is a sports car really. The XKR can be hustled and enjoyed but it rewards a smoother hand. Maybe you can get away with taking more liberties in an AWD F-type but I'd worry it would feel less rewarding at below 9/10ths.

Used car prices are all over the place right now but nothing apparently more so than used Jags. Regards RWD vs AWD, not all R models are AWD, that was an option. The Dunlops are very poor though, they may have been adequate on the old 4.2 XK but even the 4.2 XKR would overwhelm them without much trouble.
