Can anyone recommend the best battery for a late X250 2015 XF 3.0S and the best way to fit it without encountering any problems? I keep reading about owners who have had nightmares with the central locking on facelift XFs after changing the battery. I understand the logic in keeping the power supply going whilst changing the battery with a OBDll battery saver but this type of work is not exactly my forte so would I be better taking the car to a Jaguar specialist? I'd greatly appreciate any advice from someone who has successfully changed the battery on their facelift X250 XF.

The car still has it's original JLR 7 year old battery. I charged it up with a CTEK charger and it was fully charged up to number 7 on Monday. However today, when I started the car it was extremely cold and the low battery warning came on and when I put the CTEK charger on it stayed on light number 1 on the charger for hours so it seems as though the battery needs replacing.

Many thanks in advance.

The Bosch AGM Stop Start is popular as is the Varta though many say they are all much of a muchness .

I don’t think you need to take it to a Specialist and it’s a simple enough job . Especially when it’s not your forte there is little more satisfying than completing a successful job and saving a few pounds . Plenty on You Tube showing how it’s done and helping build up your confidence

Can I just check that this battery will be suitable for a 2015 X250 XF 3.0D S with start/stop:

I don't know whether or not that is the correct battery but AGM is normally fitted with stop/start and if your car's original battery is an AGM then you must replace it with an AGM.

Unfortunately, not all retailers' websites can be relied on when it comes to correct battery-fit; they're generally okay but can throw up anomalies. Unless somebody here can say for definite which battery is required, if you can access the original battery, I'd recommend measuring the size of the one currently fitted and also make a note of which way around the terminal posts are, then compare with the specification of your chosen battery.

Petrol or diesel?

I fitted this battery (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251802924486) to my 2013 3.0D S Sportbrake with no issues except the temporary loss of the window 'one touch' function, but that returned as soon as I took them up and down a couple of times. I did get my local independent to plug his computer in and tell the car that it had a new battery, but I don't believe that it was essential. The biggest problem that i had was undoing the extended bolt that holds the battery clamp to the boot floor. It is quite a small diameter and I was afraid of shearing it off. I then realised that it screwed through the floor and stuck out below, I gave the protruding end a good wire brushing and a squirt of WD 40, left it over night and in the morning it undid much more easily.

I've been recommended to keep the power to the car live when changing the battery. When keeping the power supply going to the car whilst taking the battery out, where is the best place to put the positive and negative connectors? I'm just a bit concerned about knocking the connectors away when I remove the battery.

I have a code reader and used it to reset the BMS when I changed my battery with a regular battery from Costco. However these XFs are so sensitive to battery issues throwing erroneous codes because the battery is low, don't skimp.

So the proper AGM battery is probably a very good idea, one thing though, make sure you charge the battery up before putting it into your XF, if you are planning to just stick it in without the benefit of a code reader.

Good luck.

Many thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Can I just confirm where you plug in the code reader and where best to place the connectors when temporarily keeping the power going when removing the battery?

By connectors Im assuming you meant the clamps that go onto the Battery Posts ? If you are concerned about these flapping about and coming into contact with anything just stick each of them into a small freezer bag and put a bit of tape around them .

Bit late, but in case it helps you or another, the code reader just goes in the OBD2 plug a good bit under and right of the steering wheel (its a good stretch)

I think mine was a version of this iCarsoft with about 6 different car makes you could choose from: https://ljmcardiagnostics.co.uk/products/icarsoft-...

It is fairly clumsy to set up and use, but seems to do the job resetting my XF when I changed the battery, used it on the wifes Alfa too, so probably paid itself by avoiding garage visits.
