Hi all

I have a XF SV8 and I need a better understanding of the service schedule please. I've had a look online, with no clear answers.

It's on 62k miles and last serviced in December 2021 at 57k.

I believe spark plugs are at 100k?

I'm currently having the gearbox serviced as it's 14 years old and seems like a good idea.

Does the supercharger need any specific maintenance? Someone mentioned a "supercharge service" at 60k but I can't find anything specific on this.

All advice welcome. Thanks

Some bedtime reading for you . As our friend says beneath the Supercharger Oil should be changed at 100,000 miles and the Car serviced every 10,000 miles or yearly , whichever comes sooner . Spark Plugs I have never changed on any Modern Jaguar , most advice will be to leave alone until there is an issue . You should be considering changing the gearbox oil , Jaguar claim this is sealed for life but my advice is to change around the 75,000 mark

The oil should be changed, iirc again at the 10 year 100k mile mark. I would probably look to doing it at lower miles especially if the car history is unknown or the car is driven hard.

Somewhat off topic, but how is the SV8? I’m considering an XF for my wife and the SV8 caught my eye as an alternative to the game of roulette that is the V6 diesel and its crankshaft!

I had a XF 5.0 V8 n/a 400 BHP for 3 years, great car and often overlooked. No s/c issues with this car!

It's lovely! I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

You need to consider it's a 14 year old car though, so may have some niggles.

Yep. Not sure what gearbox yours has, but the ZF6 in my DB9 needed a new torque converter at 14 years because the oil hadn't been changed. Would have cost about £5K + VAT; luckily the dealer decided to meet his obligations.

I've seen the "Sealed for life" lie about gearboxes before; the older Volvo S60 and V70 model geartronic automatic had a terrible reputation for reliability; letting go with a bang at 100k-120k miles. Have a mosey around the Volvo forums on here for a bit more detail.
The generally held advice for these gearboxes was: Volvo said 'sealed for life', but this meant that 'life' would be around 100k miles or a few more; but the fate of the gearboxes was to be killed by old, out-of-spec, worn out & burnt gearbox oil. The same model of gearbox was put in other vehicles, where a 60k oil change was on the schedules. Now, sit down for this next part, these vehicles had no reputation for broken gearboxes.

Jaguar say that this gearbox is Sealed for Life - where have we heard this before? I've got a 2009 XF-S diesel; one of the first things I did was to get gearbox oil changed at 60k. No way of knowing if the gearbox would have died if I hadn't done this, but it really can't hurt!

I would suggest the same could be said for the supercharger; there's a service window for it, but it might be worth looking at the cost of replacing the oil in it & seeing about doing it soonish. Can't hurt, and then you know it's done. Plus it'll look good on the service schedule if you're selling it privately later.
