Yesterday I bought myself an XKR. This one to be precise:

https://oldcolonelcars.co.uk/listing/jaguar-xkr-4-...

I have a couple of questions please for owners who may have been through this already.

Firstly is there some some of gadget that will allow me to stream music from an iPhone to the car, either via Bluetooth or a wired connection?

Secondly, is it possible to update the maps?

I could probably fit a new double din apple car play unit, but I like the standard look of this car.

Thanks all.

Congratulations, that looks like a very tidy example. I have the same age model with 72k on it.

So, the bad news - you will get about 23mpg.
So the good news - you will love every second of it!

Correct on the head unit problem, there is no easy way to upgrade or change it, use the Bluetooth to FM transmitter to stream from your phone. Also if you have the cd changer in the boot the car will play MP3 files from the discs which is what I usually do.

These cars will throw all sorts of errors if the battery isn’t fully charged, I strongly recommend fitting a battery maintainer. This can be easily connected in the boot, google it.

You can get map upgrade discs on ebay, it’s a dvd based system but it does use early 2000’s technology so compared to modern offerings it’s a bit dim witted. I just use Waze on my phone.

Hope you enjoy driving your xkr as much as I do, personally I think it’s one of the most elegant cars going.

Welcome to XKR ownership.

Forget upgrading the HU to a modern double DIN. It's linked HVAC and other car controls so no upgrading is possible.

There was a dealer feature that put a USB in the glovebox and in the centre console and this allows you to put a Bluetooth receiver in there and link your phone to this via the Aux port. It's all I use now. But you won't get apple car play on the screen without spending about £1.5k getting the Jag HU taken apart and the hardware changed.
I've just mounted my phone in a clamp holder in the ashtray and have it in landscape.

Battery: change to an AGM when you can. These are designed for start/stop cars and much stronger. As soon as your battery gets weak you'll get all sorts of errors.

Enjoy it. The engine is phenomenal. But it does like a drink, albeit irrespective of how hard or carefully you drive it.

Welcome to the club, you will love it.

I have found that it’s slightly less painful, if you look away from the pump when filling up.

Welcome to the club. I'm 200,000 miles into my 2010 and still love it. Best automobile I've ever owned in 55 years of driving!

Thus may or may not help, but I fitted an upgrade into my Range Rover Sport which has been brilliant. Took me a couple of hours.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334446420951?mkcid=16&a...

Also these guys have quite a bit of kit to upgrade the JLR stuff...

https://incartec.co.uk/Landrover/Range-Rover-Sport...

The unit I fitted is basically a custom fit tablet that plays through the 'Aux' button on the existing radio set up. Mine has the Harmon Kardon original system retained. So I have Waze, Google maps, Spotify, Android Auto, USB input and charger, effectively exactly what you're looking for but it all looks just as it left Solihull except for the screen when it's on. Of course this all assumes the same SatNav infotainment system as my contemporary Rangey!!

Lovely Jag by the way. I envy 23mpg! I get 14 from the Range Rover!

That is really nice, congratulations on the purchase. I am looking at buying something very similar quite soon so would be interested to hear how you get on with it.

Thanks. Loving it so far, even the missus likes driving it. I've removed fuse 19 so the exhaust sounds a bit fruitier, but it's still an acceptable noise level when bimbling around. It's very quick when you want it to be, but also very comfortable and smooth. It's my everyday car.

To bring some closure re. my questions above, and to maybe help someone else, I found a company called Oxford Car Audio that are able to incorporate Apple CarPlay into the existing system. This will give me up-to-date maps and also allow me to stream media from my phone. Not fitted yet but booked in for later this month.

Yes, that was the company I mentioned. Can they do Android? And was a right with the ballpark price?
If it's now lower then, happy days!

It's about £1300 so a little cheaper than you said. Not sure about Android.

Hopefully this may help out other XKR owners. Oxford car audio fitted Apple CarPlay last week and it works brilliantly:

Thanks for the update. I'll have to give them a ring and see if Android is possible...

How is the car, otherwise?

Loving the car so far. If you look at my video at 16 seconds it looks as if Android is in there too....

Afternoon all...

I must say I do like the look of your new system, so for that price do you still keep all of the functions from the original system and how long did it take? Plus do you have there details as they're not very local to me.

Ta eva so...
