Browsing the Classifieds I came across this for sale . When you consider the SUV Manufacturer Jaguar has become It almost belongs to a forgotten age when life seemed more simple , more predictable . I should think it would be nigh on impossible to find a better X350 XJR anywhere ! Beautiful in black dont you think ?

That is stunning. One of my mates had one in the same spec; I always said he should give me first refusal if he ever sold it. Sadly, he went to work in Saudi for most of the year and just left the car standing. Not quite sure exactly what went wrong, but it seemed to be a major coolant leak resulting in a seized engine. Total write off sadly. He still had the gall to ask if I wanted it!

I have a massive soft spot for XJs and have done since I was a kid. Got an XK currently, but that XJ there does make me think about one!

Very beautiful and with a low mileage and pampered ownership, but crikey, is the asking price where the market is at the moment?

For the best I think you always pay a premium though judging from the classifieds stock can remain static for quite some time .

If it was me i’d be looking for a later x358 . That mileage is a worry as its hardly been run so probably has knackered pipes, seals and aircon. Big bills to come for the new owner.

Having said that , if its looked after its got a lot of life in it. My 07 XJR is now on 252k miles !

Id want to change those wheels and prefer the alloy dash to wood and the price is a bit steep.

makes me miss my old one, difference was better wheels and the black interior with the grey bird eye maple trim, never been a fan of ivory leather, but they maybe because i'm so pale skinned it still looks browner then me mid summer, in the winter my natural light blue skin is a bad combo

my one was ex jag car, so had every option, even the useful ski hatch and a mini disc player

i'll get this joke in just once, the fuel gauge is reading empty, get used to that ( i know the ignition is off, if it really was that low the yellow light would have come on)

it looks good but just hasn't done the miles to shake it down properly

i always felt the gearbox was the weak link in the powertrain

they are a shape that still looks good i'm amazed how much they are worth now i sold mine for 3.5k with 110k on the clock, still a great combo of comfort and warp power

Obviously that car has a premium purely for the mileage as otherwise its nothing special. Most XJRs of that vintage are like mine with starship mileages .

I doubt anyone would pay much more than scrap value for mine.

Incredible mileages now being achieved by these Jaguars of the Ford era Dodsy , completely unheard of back in the British Leyland days . The X358 for me was little more than a poor revamp adding some plastic to make the car more appealing . Who can forget those stupid dummy brake cooling vents in the front of the X358 XJR or that bulbous wraparound rear bumper like a bit of slap added to a tart on a Friday night . The alloy dash I am less sure about it certainly looks the dogs in the Portfolio though I like the dark wood against the dark paint it gives the car a certain richness . I have an old friend Neville ( Stagnite ) from Jaguar Forum whom I havent heard from in years that converted his STR back to wood and a very lovely job he made of it too . Clearly its personal choice and taste .

Is that necessarily true about low mileage leading to problems ? Its a genuine question . I agree that the cars main reason for the high price is its low mileage which of course began the next question what do you do with her ? Perhaps Gaydon may make them an offer .

Cars like to be used, seals need oil etc being put on them on a reasonably regular basis to maintain them otherwise they dry out and crack etc. Low mileage is not a problem if it's been regularly used, but that car has done less than 1,000 miles a year. If it's done that as 15-20 miles a week, it would be fine. But if it's sat for months, or even years doing nothing, then yes it becomes a problem and will very likely lead to a world of problems.

I'd far rather buy one with say 30 or 40 k on the clock, than that one, especially given that the price is a mick take but that's my opinion smile

Its interesting you say the price is a Mick Take Rico and I totally understand that point of view . If I were asked to value her however , I think I wouldn't be far off the asking price . These cars when it comes to Jaguar Sporting Saloons are in my humble opinion without parallel . Historically some would say they are the equivalent of the 3.8 Mk2 and to my mind represent a high point in Post War Jaguars . I happily enjoy hearing any other viewpoint but the sight of one almost 20 years since their Introduction still fills me with wonder and admiration , I invite anyone to name an Executive sporting saloon from the same period which has aged better ? It's incredible to think that during their time of Production they were criticised for not being modern enough ?? What has happened in those intervening years to bring about this reappraisal and increasing values ??

Take a look at whats available in the luxury or prestige sector now, and ask yourself which you'd prefer to have.

I doubt very much anything you purchase brand new now will still be providing reliable and comfortable transport in 20 years time.

Black and birds eye is what I have - adore it.

Is there any way of finding the original ad as it’s gone now. Thanks

Thanks.

Both look lovely, I’d bet the lower mileage car is a Japanese car looking at the speedo.

Yes undoubtedly I think . Obligatory Leaper and from the Wise Motor Company in Mill Hill London who seem to specialise in these Imports
I would still be with the British Car as opposed to the Japanese one .
