My son is considering a 2016 Jaguar XE 2.0 Diesel Auto as his next car.

He will be taking it up to around 100k Miles. Are there any reliability issues with this model.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well the XE never hit anywhere near the Sales Levels Jaguar intended upon its introduction though having said this , they can attract a loyal following from those that own them . Personally from the outset I would be considering the vehicles provenance . Jaguar in an attempt to chase the Fleet Buyer and bolster Sales shifted many of these into the Leasing and Rental Market with an agreed " Buy Back " Clause . I had one friend many years ago on Jaguar Forum who had the misfortune to be conned into purchasing one of these ex Rental Cars , it simply gave JLR and a PO Box number on the Log Book as the previous Owner . After some Investigation he found that it had been leased by JLR to Thrifty Hire and instead of being the one owner car he thought he had purchased , it had in effect been rallied around the M25 by God only knows in the Drivers Seat . The Jaguar Main Dealership simply shrugged their shoulders . Where is your Son intending to purchase this car from ?

Hi - I bought a 2016 XE 2.0t (ie the petrol Ford engine) in January, so not a very long period of time to report back on.

However, in that time it has been entirely reliable, even electronics and ICE! However, when I was looking at my car I spoke to my local (and trusted) Jag indie about XE's in general and his opinion was not to get the diesels. I offer that thought up for what it is worth.

As for the rest of the car, I very much like it. It's fast enough for a daily, economical enough for the miles I do and I like the mix of ride comfort and handling (in the context of a daily driver). In contrast, when I test drove a BMW 3 series with M-Sport suspension I thought it one of the worst riding cars I've ever been in!

I find the interior to be fine as well - I know this is often criticised, but it works for me. It doesn't rattle and I find it very comfortable. That'll do me! I have the Meridian sound upgrade on my car, which I consider to be OK. No idea how it stacks up to the un-upgraded system though.

The last reliability survey I can remember reading, had the XE petrols near the top at joint 3rd (tied with a Volvo of some description). This was in the small executive class I think.

The diesel was bottom frown

Our 2017 XE S has been mechanically totally reliable, with only a trip to the dealer for a new reverse camera wiring loom a year ago.

Many Thanks for the Replies.

It was the Diesel he was looking for. Does anyone know of the potential issues with the Diesel.

You really want to be asking these questions on a Forum such as the above , from experience you will get statistically more Owners and indeed more opinions on anything connected with the Jaguar XE .

He ended up (Dad’s influence) getting a 2017 Audi A4 TDI 2.0 190 S Line. It’s a One Owner Low Mileage Audi Approved Used Car.

The comparable Alfa which is a Guilia Diesel Specialle was significantly above his budget. Who would ever of thought that an Alfa could hold its price so well. It shows their great cars.

I've had a 2015 Jaguar XE 25T (petrol) for about 4 years (maybe 5 - I can't remember when I bought it).

Other than a differential seal (fixed by Jaguar under warranty) and a steering column bush (fixed by Jaguar under a TSB) it has been entirely reliable.

To be fair the Giulia Diesel has had some great reviews , though come resale time I suspect the German car will have the better residuals .

My '15 XE 2.0d 180 Sport went pop yesterday for reasons unknown a shame as I have been enjoying it, not too slow, ride and handling reminds me of a sports car and also a great looking car, here she is.

edit : missed the '16 in the thread title.

I ran a 67 plate R-Sport with 240bhp for a couple of years. I thought it was a lovely car until one day the EML came on - the O2 sensor was faulty, the NOx sensor was faulty and the EGR filter was blocked. £1300 later, I decided I probably wouldn't buy another one.

An expensive, engine out, fix. The oil should be changed regularly, a lot more regularly than Jag recommends. Second hand engines are like hen’s teeth and priced accordingly.

I had this problem- quietly PXed the car to a dealer and won't get another. A pity as I loved the car generally.

It’s a great shame. The XE is a decent car, but Jaguar have a big problem with these engines.
