F-Type V6 Startup Bark
Discussion
Hi All...so I've had my F for about a year now, and I never tire of the noises it makes...except for the startup when it 'barks' and then pops and crackles. I went to pick up my daughter from school the other day, and started it without realising that a family were walking behind the car...it frightened the bejesus out of their little girl...and they clearly thought I'd revved it on starting to show off...they weren't impressed and I felt stupid!
Is there any way to get it to stop starting like that when already warm? Or a way to switch it on/off? Something I can get tuned? Or from a Jag dealer coding?
Thanks,
J.

You could try experimenting with the exhaust valve switch? On the F-Pace SVR it starts with the valves fully open then closes them. If you turn the ignition only on you can press the valves button and either open them or close them - then start it. Might be worth a go and use a torch to look down the pipes to check what the valves are doing?

Thanks Guys. I'll try the exhaust valve button before starting.
I heard about a recent software update that quiets things down generally. Does that affect the start up sound?
Ta.
If it’s been back to Jag recently it’s probably been updated. My SVR always starts up with valves 3/4 open, regardless of drive mode. They then throttle closed after startup. You can force fully open by pressing the button while the ignition is on. I heard about a recent software update that quiets things down generally. Does that affect the start up sound?

Try seeing if you can force them closed by turning the valves on then off before starting - you can visually check with a torch. I’ve done the opposite with mine and forced them fully open then disconnected them, but I’m an anti-social tt (and I don’t think the F-Pace SVR is quite as raucous on start up as the old F-Types).
What age is the car?
I have a 2015 V6S and the last time i had it in for a service they mentioned about updating the ECU. I had read on a forum that Jaguar had been getting rid of the startup with valves open. I asked them if the update would get rid of it and they confirmed it would, so i asked them not to do the update.
I bought the car because i like the start up noise. And from reading on forums once they update it there is no way of them undoing the changes.

Growing older in inevitable, it's only growing up one can avoid
Getting back to your original Post can I ask the following because as a person who has ran Jaguars for much of my life its honestly something I have never encountered in those almost 40 years . How many times has a Member of the public reprimanded you for making excessive noise in your XKR because I am convinced that the answer is Never ! It never happens . Even in my SVR I have actually had People ask me to blip the throttle just so they can hear it in all its electronically enhanced glory . My Cerbera was another example as was my RS2000 fitted with the Janspeed . In fact I would go further and say that this whole Topic is yet another example of the endless attempts to force conformity upon us . People are made to feel guilty and somehow responsible for others inadequacy and lack of tolerance . If the OP feels guilty then he should simply by a Chelsea Tractor like the rest of them doing the school run .Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
