Had my first E-type experience today and am now aiming to have one fill the “classic” spot in my garage.

Budget is modest - 50ish - so I guess I’m settling for a series 2 or 3, 2+2, but I’d really like it to be a manual, even if it’s a conversion and a LHD.

I’m used to the breadth and depth of the classic 911 market having owned a few in the past but tbh, I’m feeling totally out of my depth browsing the E-type classifieds with the huge range of pricing and model.

First off - is my budget realistically going to get me into the car I want, and if so, should I be trying to source one privately or via a dealer? Should I be looking abroad?

Any advice welcome. Lots of info on PH and the net but some of it 10/20 years old now!

Cheers

Nick

I think your budget will easily get you an S2 manual. Hopefully Lowdrag the resident expert will be on soon to give you the full SP.

I’ve looked but always found anything nice resulted in budget creep, s1 is so much better looking.

I think you are probably right about the price Benno , mid £60k is where the bulk of the good ones are . 2+2 for me is a bit less desirable with the raised roofline and the Series 3 begin to look a bit lardy in comparison to the litheness of the earlier cars . Buying Privately or from a Dealer is always something thats an interesting decision to make . Personally I always like to see History and Bills and plenty of them , at one time the E Type Register were very helpful in providing evaluation assistance should you find a car of interest , is this still the case ? I dont know though I suspect it probably is . The bulk of American cars I have looked at are invariably Automatic and I have a good friend currently converting one to Manual . It originated in Arizona so almost corrosion free .
