Sublime this XJ40 XJR , its been many years since I saw one in such good condition . I have never owned nor driven one , does anyone have any experience of owning or driving ? At £25K I would have to say its worth its money on rarity value but I would be wondering about my exit strategy . I would have to drive the car and with another 20k miles recorded its lost half its value .

I had a 1990 Sovereign 4.0. Absolutely lovely.

Bought it from the local auction in 1993 with 70K miles for just £10,500 (new price £36,500).

Best ride of any car I've ever had. And it was so quiet you could hear the leather of the seat moving.

I had a 1993 3.2S as a company car. A hand-me-down from my boss. When I was 23.

thumbup Almost the same as me back in 1994, my second Jag was a 1990 4.0 in gunmetal grey with grey interior. Such a good car, I had it for almost 10 years until the front subframe started to corrode away (Aberdeen does that to cars), I moved it on reluctantly.

I shall have to take a look at the figures but to my mind the XJ40 XJR must be amongst the rarest to have worn the XJR badge? Its got a brawny look to it that the later cars never had .

The X300 was a wolf in sheep's clothing whereas the XJ40 one was more about the clothing, at least at first, IIRC later the engine was mildly breathed on but not like the later "R" models where they were supercharged.

Thanks for that , I have absolutely no experience of the XJ40 . I have to say that this particular model looks very well executed , almost like a De Tomaso at the front .

My father is seriously considering buying this.

They have a different inlet manifold and make a slight more torque but other than that, they’re a standard 4.0

Thats made my day hearing this . It interested me that the Garage selling the car say they have sold it to the two previous buyers , I wonder how much mileage it has accrued over that ownership , it cant have been much . You shall have to keep in touch and let us all know how he gets on , for that Model its head and shoulders above anything else currently in the marketplace . Nonetheless its a limited marketplace comprised mainly of Jaguar Enthusiasts and in this case I suspect a £25k bid is where I would want to be .

I think the Colour of the car in this case will account for at least 25% of most peoples attraction . Its incredible how it gives the car such a strong presence .
