For a sixties kid like myself that reached his teenage years just as Production was ending its hard not to get misty eyed over the E Type Jaguar . Every bit as relevant to British Culture as Elgar , Dickens or the Beatles I can never not look whenever I see one in the flesh or advertised for sale .
To date I have never taken the plunge into E Type ownership and its largely been a question of having nowhere to keep such a car safe and undercover . I simply couldn't bear to watch such a car deteriorate under my ownership but lately I have begun to think I am just making excuses to myself and perhaps its now or never . Looking at the car in the link above , the old " automotive viagra " is already beginning to work its magic . Ok its the Series 3 V12 and by this stage of E Type Production they were a long way from the lithe Sportscar of the Sixties . Instead they had morphed into more of a GT Cruiser bowling along the Motorway behind the legendary V12 engine and in this final guise they were a hard sell on the Forecourt . I well remember them sitting for ages in Main Dealerships , a red one in Appleyard Bogside and a black one in Taggarts Motherwell I " played in " as a 10 year old for months whilst the old man picked up his Unipart antifreeze .
Has anyone ever taken the plunge for such a car and whats been your experience ? Any models to avoid or FHC as opposed to Convertible ? the car I have posted in the link looks very tempting and it seems to be Enthusiast owned which is always a plus point for me . Pricewise I think its very tempting .
Have American Imports lowered the price of these Domestic market cars ? I think they probably have and thats a good thing for us old blokes still dreaming of owning one .
