Hey folks,

I am looking at a 2014 XJR and wonder what they are like to own/use? Any common issues to be aware of etc?

I think the general opinion of the X351 XJR is that its a fine car with a good engine . I have come across one or two people who state that the Timing Tensioner can be an issue but equally I have known others who have had no problems . When buying a secondhand one however , I would be having the job done if only for piece of mind . Apart from that the usual checks apply when buying any secondhand Jaguar . Firstly I would be looking for a full service history , Main Dealer initially followed by a recognised Independent . Check that everything works and the car sits level , check the Bodywork for any repair or repaint . Since Jaguar switched to aluminium construction back in 2003 I think personally that bodges tend to be glaring so its much easier to spot something that isnt quite right . Finally there are one or two Japanese Imports around which I have seen at various Jaguar gatherings so know what you are buying , try and look at a few before parting with your money . Buy in haste and repent at leisure as my old man used to say as we viewed yet another Cortina . laugh

Thanks. This a low mileage model at a main dealer with FJSH (I think). I've not been impressed with the sales process so far. Previously I was looking at an I-pace at another Jag dealer and the sales person was disinterested and then the test drive the car was filthy and had a pair of socks in the center console arm rest.

This time seems little better, taking days to get back to me.

I've booked in to two separare lexus dealers and the process has been night and day. Quick follow up via phone and confirmations via email etc.

Why Jaguar seem to not give a fig about customers is beyond me. I'll revisit the XJR after Saturdays lexus test drives, but it seems such an unenforced error.

Sadly there is much online about the abysmal performance of Jaguar Dealerships , my other half runs 911 Porsches all coming every other year from our local Dealership at Silverstone and they are simply faultless in their approach to dealing with Customers . I think the poor Dealership experience can be put down to several things . Firstly the rationalisation of the Dealership Network which has driven the traditional local Dealerships who knew their Customer base out of Business . Now we have one or two major players retailing all JLR products under one roof and the Business is geared towards the Leasing Customer rather than the traditional Private Buyer . Plenty of good Independent Specialists out there but unfortunately again due to the rise of Lease Deals , the Main Dealerships retain a near monopoly on nearly new stock .

Mmmm it’s really a shame as it’s not like Jag can afford to turn away customers.

I have two test drives tomorrow for a LC 500 one in Kent (hybrid) and one in Coventry (V8) so lots of driving tomorrow 😁 if they don't work out I'll revisit the Jag.
