Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible
Discussion
My car is a coupe so I've never really troubled myself to look at the convertible stuff. I do know on later convertibles at least the ECU and its fuse for the convertible roof is located in the boot above the battery. The ECU takes signals from the handbrake, transmission and ignition systems. I understand it needs all to be present before the roof will move.
Testing an old memory but I think the handbrake would be easy to check as there's a microswitch on the lever. Those 80s microswitches are a complete pain, 30 years ago now but I still remember the hours spent troubleshooting the centre console switches.
Never worked on an XJS with an electric roof, we chopped the roof off a few and made them convertibles but always with a manual roof.

Hey there Jamieduff1981 and toastyhamster,
Thanks for your replies. I must start by saying I like cars but how they all work is confusing. My boss on the other hand has had all sorts of cars in his life time, and when he said to me the roof is not working I expected the worst. Only to find out from you blokes, all you need to do is pull up the handbrake. HA HA HA HA. LOVE IT!!!
Again thanks for your replies.
