I’m just on my way to pick up my 2009 V8 5L XKR, and I wondered about the ageing Sat Nav/media system that it uses…

Obviously, the system is now a bit long in the tooth compared to the more modern systems, but are there any alternatives?

Is it possible to retro fit a modern Sat Nav/media system in it (if so, has anyone done it), but if not, is it a case of using the fitted system purely for media (radio, CD etc) and then using a standalone 3rd party Sat Nav (TomTom etc)?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello Kevin,

Are you by any chance the chap I was discussing XKR's with on AV Forums?

The best I have seen to date is the integration of android auto into the existing head unit. I have no personal experience of the product but I'll link it below. I must admit its something I'm very tempted with however the £1600 price tag has made me hold fire so far.

Since owning my XKR, I've not used the sat nav once, instead I purchased a wireless phone charger which mounts to the centre air vent and use Google maps. I appreciate its not an integrated solution but cost approx £30 vs £1600.

Which car did you go for in the end?

I've got an '09 XF which I think uses the same system.
It's slow, clunky and hard to use on the road.
Adjusting the aircon can easily lead to an accident, as can the radio.

If there's an affordable solution (i.e. a lot less than £1600) I'd love to know about it.

Hi Russ,

Yes, that was me…well remembered!

I went for the black one (with ivory interior) in the end from Wilson Motors in Warrington…I don’t normally buy black cars, but this one is growing on me…I’ll know for sure once I see it in the flesh in about 30 minutes…

Thanks for the link to the Nav/Media system…I’ll take a look. I don’t mind the price tag if it is a major upgrade, but I’ll have a good look at the system and see what it’s like…

Cheers,
Kevin
