Now I’ve always fancied a XK or XJ, have them in the family and they’re are very nice indeed. I thought jag had shaken off the old boy image with the current models but it appears not….well according to a few non petrol head people I know. XJ is on the list for the future but as they are out of production I my need to get a wriggle on. This is a tongue in cheek question really, but can a bloke in is 30s respectfully run a big XJL?

Of course - run what you want!

Ignore the bland, received opinion from dullards - life too short.

XJ’s are great but I’d say the same if you wanted a Pink Figaro.

Based on their current Model line up I would say they have completely shaken off the " old boy " image and to be fair that was never an image I recognised anyway . I think this "old boy " description was down to two things , the almost glacial evolution of the XJ shape and the retro look of the S Type . The latter model I believe was a mistake though it wasnt by any means a bad car .

Back in the late 90s, when I was 27, I ran an almost new XK8 convertible, followed by a V8 S-type. Cost me a fortune in depreciation but great fun.

Why worry what other people think?

I'm 36. Picked up this XF over the weekend. Looking forward to wafting over the continent. I don't care if it makes me look "old", there's little fun to be had on UK roads now.

I bought my first Jag when I was 27: a first generation XF S. I bloody loved that thing, but a house move meant a diesel no longer suited my 6 mile commute…

I’m now 34 and have recently bought this to replace my far ‘trendier’ Mercedes C43:

I find I get a lot more interest in my current XJ than I ever did in the much more expensive, faster and newer C43…

If you can afford to run and service them properly (and have a long enough commute if going diesel), I say go for it; they’re superb cars and have got under my skin far more than anything else I’ve had.

Bought my first XKR (2008 4.2) age 35. I personally know a good few Jag owners who are significantly younger than I was then too. When I first bought it I got a bit of good-natured ribbing from mates. One of them drove a Mini Cooper S at the time, he asked me one day "do the police stop you to ask if your grandad knows you're driving his car?" to which I responded "no, do they stop you and ask for a haircut?" All cars or brands will get you some stick for something or other, just buy what you want and enjoy it smile

I'd wanted an XJ or Mk2 since my early teens, worked on and drove several Jaguars in my '20s and bought my first one in my early '30s.

I've had five XJ sixes and eights in a row now and have finally become old enough to fit the stereotype too so I guess I'm pretty much stuck with it. biggrin

If it's good enough for the PM it's good enough for you. I had my first Jag (XJ40) at 31.

You're driving it to please yourself, not other people...

I bought my XJ6 when I was 33 back in 1996. I still have it although it is currently SORN. One day biggrin One day I'll get it back on the road.
I've had two other Jags since then and XK150 which I deeply regret having sold and an X150 which I suspect is for keeps too.

I'm mid 30s and this is my latest daily driver. I've wanted an XK since reading about them in Evo magazine.

Go for it. I think the x351 XJ looks great and tried to find a nice 5.0L but they are very rare. Running costs seem sensible too, compared to the opposition.

There was a 12 year old lad posting and running a blog about his red XJ40 on PH in the dim and distant past too.

I helped out with some technical info when he started repairing and improving it. smile

Never too young, my first XJ was when I was 19. Since then a number of other ones, at 28 I have just bought a Daimler Super Eight.

Insurance isn't too bad for it. Not many young uns run these, so there aren't loads of stats showing lots of crashes etc for them. It's thirsty though, so he's also got 335d for economy! The insurance for that is considerably more. Still thinks he's saving money though by using the diesel for commuting. His man maths has to be admired!
