Consider a 2009 XKR convertible with 75K miles.

How much would the original service history book add to the value?

Possibly more interested buyers rather than extra cash. You can check past mots online for any issues and if you have receipts for any work to down to correct those issues is good. A stamped history showing regular oil changes can be had quite easily so check with the corresponding dealer stamp. A car with no history on average will sell cheaper though. No excuse for the current owner to have at least some kind of service or repair bill though for the past year.

This is rather the other way round. I bought the car in June but rejected it because it had lots of faults. I was sure I'd sent all the paperwork back with the car, but I found the SH (stamped booklet) earlier this week in with my own car's stuff.

Overall on the deal I lost about £125 on VED and insurance, so if the SH was worth that I could break even. I thought about putting it on eBay but wondered if that was allowed. Or I could just post it back to the dealer and ask them to send it to the new owner, and stay £125 down.

ETA I decided to post it back as was, and said that if they'd like to chip in a bit that would be much appreciated.

It ended well. Dialogue with dealer roughly thus:

'I've found the history book!'

'Great, please send it back, happy to pay postage'

'Well actually I'm still about £125 down because you sold me a lemon'.

'We are not in a position to send £125'.

'I thought a tenner might have been fair recompense for me not to put it in the shredder'

'We can send you £10 if you like'

'By the way I didn't get round to writing that review you were so keen for'.

'As a goodwill gesture we have sent you £125'
