Hi All,

Just wanted any thoughts and pointers regarding the ordering of a new F type V8 Convertible.

I've spoken to a dealer and have been told that its likely to be 6 months potentially for a delivery, however they seen coy regarding any discounts being available.

I can understand the current uncertainty regarding parts suppler etc and can also live with the lead time but I wouldn't want to jump in only to see in
12 months time that large discounts are being touted about again.

Sorry if this has been asked so many times before but any thoughts or indeed any user friendly Dealership leads would be much appreciated.

Kind regards Ed.

I'd imagine there is almost always potential for a discount on a Jag. Pretty sure their Castle Brom plant is still operating on severely reduced capacity so they probably need all the orders they can get.

Coast2coast reckon there's £8k discount to be had on a base supercharged V8. Potentially more of a discount the higher the spec you go.

Thanks for your post, very interesting and helpful.

It got me looking deeper online where upon I note Autoebid are claiming to offer £9900.00 off a P450 V8 Convertible, however not knowing of them
I wonder if thats just a sprat to catch the mackerel.

I understood from the Jaguar Dealership that I spoke with it was a case of Jaguar having untold orders backing up hence the delivery forecast.

I guess if that is correct then may be thats why the reluctance to get anywhere near the 8k you mention is on the table let alone the Autoebid mobs 9.6k online reduction.

I'm in no major rush but I'm happy to place an order but just feel slightly nervous of whats currently being put on the table.

Do I really want to ring round loads of dealerships in the hunt for that almost 10k discount only to get my head done in rolleyes...........well I'm not sure tbh so maybe I'll sit tight or keep
watching the classifieds incase something floats my boat.

Any further thoughts welcome.

Isn't that scenario exactly what Carwow do for you?

Yes put your spec into carwow as said and one dealer will give you a decent discount. Average discount is about 7% at the moment

Thanks Craig.

I've taken on board the Carwow advice and entered my enquiry and had 1 offer back straight off the bat of less 2.9%....frown

I'm hoping someone is hungry enough to throw in the big percentages but I won't be holding my breath, we shall see.

I got 10% off an F-Pace SVR at the start of August, but even then they were quoting 6-12 months. As it happens it’s being built next month for mid December delivery.

I think I’m paying 72k on an 80k list but in-stock cars are selling for 84k+. Half tempted just to cash in….

Anyway, discounts were and should still be available.

We have been waiting over 6 months for a JLR product and we still haven’t been given a build date yet.
This garage alone has a pool of over 200 cars on order with more being added daily and there is 173 dealerships in the country and only a trickle coming through so I would be wary of putting down a deposit unless they give you a guaranteed delivery time or are prepared for a lengthy wait.

See what comes back after you get all the offers. Try drive the deal too.

At the end of the day, regardless of recent cosmetic surgery, its a 8 year old car design and near end of life, nobody pays list at that kind of time. Sure the chip shortage is probably doing for it a bit at the moment because the build times are extended massively.

How will you be paying for it? always take the finance to benefit from the deposit contributions and then pay it off after the first payment if you were intending to pay cash.

It’s very dependent on spec, apparently. They appear to be prioritising high spec cars where the profit is. They won’t give a build date on ordering but no harm asking to make your deposit conditional on a specific delivery timeframe. Maybe then do the same elsewhere with another brand and see which comes first. Wouldn’t surprise me if you could even sell a build slot - or at least your car when it came.

Took two months to get a build date for mine, although there’s every chance the actual build of November gets pushed forward. Otherwise if it’s on time it will have been about four months from ordering to delivery. My current Disco was three months and that was before all the semi-conductor issues, so I can’t complain.

I was told a build date of July.

Hi Ed,

Car shopping again?! smile

I can sort you out a nice used motor but I would have a go on Autoebid - it commits you to absolutely nothing but does get a dealer dutch auction going to give you an idea and you don' have to accept.

All the best. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

Hi John

Hope all is well.

I'm just dipping my toe in the water out of boredom really rolleyes, her indoors isn't over the moon with my latest brainstorm of the next
must have but I shall win her over I'm sure.

If I can get the near £10k off of one then yes maybe I'll order one but if the dealers keep playing it coy I'll just ride it out until someone gives in.

Seems so much uncertainty in the market place currently but hey ho I'm in no rush.

I'll investigate this Autoebid outfit a bit deeper and try and get them at it as suggested in this thread.

Have fun.

Took on board your post and went down the Carwow route.

They have managed 3 offers with the best being less 2.9%, whilst the other 2 came back at 0% discount.

Maybe the parts shortages added to covid and general uncertainty has tightened things up.

Still looking into Autoebid who have come back with a much more interesting offer of nearly 10K off.

Food for thought and so onto the interesting bit............telling the wife the plan rolleyes

Guess they are not going to give a discount on a car they know they cant build well into next year through no fault of their own. Certain combinations of options will make this more the case depending on what systems they use. Guess its either very much the right time to buy a new car or very much the wrong time depending on what you are buying.

Edit. I thought i would play around and specced up a 450 R-dynamic and the first offer is back from Jaguar Bolton at 8.1%

Interesting edit there Craig.

I didn't get an offer from that dealer so who knows how Carwow is working this currently.

My offers were from dealers much closer to my home address than your offer on looking at your profile location.

Only got the 3 or 4 offers before the steam seemed to run out on my enquiry, never mind something will crop up if its meant too.

Thanks for your input btw thumbup.

Have they changed their pricing strategy on the F-Type like they have for other Jags recently? I just bought a new XF and when chatting to the dealer they basically said they’ve dropped their prices substantially (about 10-15% as I recall) since the 2020 facelift to compete better with the Germans, but because of that they are offering next to no discounts. I had a few quotes via Carwow but like you have found very minimal discounts amounting to 3-400 quid max, but list price was still competitive vs. equivalent 5 Series/A6 etc. even after their own (fairly heavy) discounts.

Then they said they’ve shut their order book anyway until next year basically, due to Covid/chip shortages etc. I ended up buying a showroom model.

Obviously different beasts, but maybe something in it.

You usually get 5 offers from Carwow and then they say its complete. The way carwow works is that all their dealers are alerted and then they can choose if they respond and the first five that do are the ones you get. Interesting that it wasnt the same ones. Peterborough and Oxford have also come back but with 5.2%

They havent really reduced the price of the F-type just changed the spec and given you more for your money. In 2013 the list prices were pretty much as they are now.

Interesting story OP, the F-type nearly didnt get made at all. I was talking to Wayne Burgess the other day who was the exterior designer and he said that in late 2008 Ratan Tata went to the design centre and was shown a number of drawings and clays for various things and his comment was "you should make a new E-type". 12 months later he returned and said "how are you getting on with the new E-type?" and Wayne said the whole design team looked at each other thinking "st he was serious" and the project started the next day hehe
