I think it well could be . Some may talk about the 3.8 Mk2 others may prefer the majesty of the Mk10 but to my mind Jaguar enjoyed their best years under Ford ownership and certainly their most financially secure . This in my view was their ultimate expression of the classic XJ and I can think of no better Post War Jaguar Sporting Saloon . Its clean and its crisp , its elegant and refined and I invite you to put any car of the same period alongside and you will see just how timeless the design is . Its an automotive icon .

It's certainly the most under rated.
A beautiful looking thing Peter though I have one misgiving about this particular car . Five Owners yet only 40,000 miles ? Each of them showed remarkable self restraint .I agree with the theme of this thread.
R.
Sorry but the 5 owners would put me right off.... when its passed from pillar to post with so few miles, my internal alarm starts to go berserk. And I should know as I bought an X350 with low miles and many owners... utter disaster, BUT buy a good one and they are great cars. The price though seems to be about £10 - 15K over market value...
IMHO the original 6 cylinder Supercharged X300 XJR.
At the time it was a breath of fresh air, a four door DB7, Clarkson in a X300 XJR vs Tiff Nedell in an E39 M5, those monoblock alloys...
Now I know time hasn't been kind, and they are still a bit of a barge, and the X308 was a better car.
But.
This marked the resurgence of Jaguar. It was confident. It was cool. It had that stardust of the XJ220 being designed by the same team. It was everything great about the Jim Randle engineering & Geoff Lawson design era. It will be a classic car once the motoring press pick up on it. You'll be kicking yourself when these fetch £30k. Mark my words!
In metallic red with black leather please.

Close, but I'd say that the S-type R is even more under rated
The lack of an Aluminium Body always held it back for me along with its love hate looks .I dont think anyone would argue with the Power DeliveryI think the love it / hate it retro styling kept it under the radar
