Hello forum, greetings to you all!

I'd like to first quickly say thank you to all the folks who have posted various useful information that got me to where I am today. I've been only reading so far, and this would be my first post, of a question I could not find a clear answer to.

I'm looking to purchase a 2009 Jaguar XKR, and am happy with interior, exterior, HPI check, MOT check, etc.; the only thing left for me is a good inspection by a Jaguar specialist.

While waiting, I also managed to retrieve the TOPIx vehicle summary. The summary contained the following lines:

LEATHER FACIA/CONTRAST STITCH
...
LESS CONTRAST STITCHING
LESS BREAKDOWN WARNING SIGN
LESS FIRST AID KIT
LESS FRONT PARKING AID
LESS SVP
LESS VOICE ACTIVATED CONTROLS

Just have a few quick questions for you gurus if you don't mind:
  1. The first two features shown above... They seem to contrast each other? rofl
  2. The second-to-last opted-out feature: "SVP". What is this? I've found a few versions of the acronym, one that stood out was "Special Vehicle Provisions", but couldn't find what these include?
  3. Do any of these stand out as things that people would not commonly remove and I should be wary of? I hear that the FRONT PARKING AID could be opted-out to improve the smooth look of the vehicle front?

Thanks very much for your help! smile

I've seen SVP referred to as Secure Vehicle Protect, AKA Tracker.

The first two items dont contradict each other as one refers to the Contrast Stitching on the Dash Fascia which you have whilst the second refers to the Contrast Stitching on the Seats and Door mouldings which you dont have which matters little .

Thanks to both your replies, Cranked & reddiesel, I certainly learned something new.

I've also seen that SVP could also mean the tracker. In fact, I've seen SVP =:
  • Special Vehicle Production/Preparations -- Dunno what the heck this means.
  • Special Vehicle Protection -- Tracker as Cranked provided.
  • Special Vehicle Paint -- Hence, "LESS SVP" for stock colors; that would make sense.
Any other ideas anyone?

Thanks for your help. smile

I think you can safely rule out the Tracker as it was never available .

Hi could I piggy back on to this thread, I am now looking at XK 5.0 or XKR as a replacement for my Merc SL 350 has anyone a few pros and cons. Fuel not a problem, road tax just the same so what should I look for, any help appreciated. Coupe or cab ?
Performance not too much issue as I seem to be driving more relaxed with advancing years.

If you take the time to look for a good one then I think you will be well pleased . Provenance in my experience is everything , a fully stamped Service Book and a wodge of associated paperwork , Main Dealer and Independent is the norm . Avoid anything in Silver , I appreciate colour is subjective but its simply not its best hue and the Trade know it and will bid you accordingly . I would be asking on some of the Forums for an Owner in your area to accompany you to a viewing , its a very seductive shape and People tend to see only what they want to see . Body wise they are all aluminium as you no doubt know , familiarise yourself with the different specs and frontal aspects as they changed a couple of times over the Models life . Any bodges in aluminium Jaguars tend to be glaring so its just a case of the usual precautions . Checking Panel gaps , making sure the wings havent been interfered with , the bracing bar at the front hasn't been replaced and everything works . I would want four quality tyres all the same make , alloys all in good unkerbed condition . Tyres are easily £200 a corner and wheels near to £100 a piece to refurb . Personally I would ignore the XK5.0 , if you buy it you will always wonder what the XKR is like . Coupe or Cab ? I would say Coupe though in this instance the Cab is still a lovely looking thing . I am based in MK and happy to run the rule over anything nearby or indeed accompany you if that helps . Feel free to PM me . I dont know what you budget is , some are north of £30k which is Aston Money . I have owned both and the Jaguar is the better car . Its very easy to buy a good one so dont be intimidated .

Thats great news John . These People whom I have absolutely no connection with carry some nice stock . As I have said elsewhere some of it seems to sit for a while especially the X350 Jaguars so I wouldn't shy away from making an offer . I apologise for not noticing that you asked for the Cons of ownership . In my experience there were only a few . Rear Seats are pretty useless for carrying passengers though bizzarely owning an F Type I now miss them . The door windows are frameless with no guttering which can lead to an occasional lap full of water when you open the door in heavy rain.
The wheels especially the Sentas I found were too easily kerbed . My own carelessness I know , but it never seemed to happen with any other car ive owned .

apotek,
I have owned my 2010 5.0L XKR for over 8 years. Unquestionably the best automobile I have ever owned in 53 years of driving and at least 30 cars. I have 190,000 miles on mine, still looks like new and drives just wonderfully. Mine has been pulleyed and tuned to about 600hp and has been and still is a joy to drive. When looking for one, you want to look for evidence that there were regular oil changes. The 5.0L engine is sensitive to low oil and dirty oil. The only other issues that are a known problem are the water pumps which have been an issue.

I would rather get a car with more mileage that has a known service history than a lower mileage car with an unknown history. Also, although ZF tells you that the transmission never needs fluid replacement, don't believe it. I changed the fluid twice in my 190,000 mile car, and everything still works great. I've never had a car go nearly 200,000 miles without having major transmission work let alone a 600hp paddle shifting super GT. The one other thing I would suggest if you buy one is that these cars are very sensitive to battery voltage, so if you're not driving it everyday, I would recommend keeping it on a battery tender, you'll avoid a lot of issues if the battery is always fully charged
.

.
I believe that ZF do recommend that the gearbox is serviced (fluid & filter change) every 10yrs/60,000 miles, and that it's Jaguar (& BMW) that say they are 'sealed for life'....

Maybe that's why the won't extend the warrantee beyond 10 years, or at least a warrantee which provides enough cover for the gearbox.
Mines only done 30K, but its ten years old now so I guess time to find an independent that can do the fluid change.
Incidently LadyB8's previous Merc had the box that Jaguar used to use on the early supercharged V8s. Again Jaguar insisted it was sealed for life, well the local Mercedes main dealers also insisted it was. Someone posted the Mercedes bulletin number on here once about changing it at 100K but the dealer wasn't having any of it. The Jag specialist in Reading did it for us back then.

Collected yesterday and had a great drive back through Buxton. What a nice car . Thanks for all the advice , I'm sad that Jaguar has never come on my motor buying radar before now.
