Just picked up my 2012 XFR (usual superlatives & expletives apply...yikes), and I thought I'd better check up on the car's security.

It has the lovely 'Keyless Entry' feature where all you have to do is walk up to the vehicle with the fob and you can open the door and start it.

My previous car (2016 Mondeo) didn't have this, but I still kept the keys in some of those those Faraday pouches you can buy what with the prevalence of so-called 'Relay Theft'.

Thought I'd better just check their effectiveness with the Jag, only to find they don't work at all! irked

Even two pouches - one inside the other - had no effect. Kind of glad I checked...

After a bit of experimenting, a quick and easy solution was found just wrapping the fobs in good old Costco aluminium foil - the keys are completely undetectable, inside and out. Phew!

They obviously use a different frequency or signal strength from the Jag from the Ford system.

It got me wondering, what other security measures do fellow Jag owners employ?

I'm thinking of getting a Ghost immobiliser installed as an extra safeguard, and yes, I know any security system can be circumvented if the scumbags want the car bad enough frown

This is by far the nicest car I've owned, and I'll be damned if I'm going to give it up without a fight... punch

Oh, and is there a way to disable the 'Keyless Entry' nonsense on an XF?

The lining in the pouches might be split or worn, they don't last forever. Don't think you can disable keyless on the XF.

Congratulations on what is a fantastic car.

A biscuit tin should work. But don't over think it. 10 year old XFRs aren't on the chop shop or shipped to order list.

Cheers - I checked the pouches for wear, and one of them was brand new (it's been sitting in a cupboard with the Mondeo spare key since new).

Even doubled up they still didn't work.

Just ordered one of these... - we'll see if that's any good. If not it'll be getting the foil treatment.

This thread describes a couple of ways to do it on the X150 version of the XK which I believe shares a similar vetronic architecture:

Thanks for that - I'll have a butcher's thumbup

Were you definitely putting the key inside the correct bit of the pouch? Lots of them have the main inner which the key needs to go in, and then there's a separate outer pouch. Using the latter won't work. As others have said though they do stop working over time.

Definitely. I've been using the same pouch for a year or so, and verifying it was working periodically with the Mondeo.

Wierd!

Just get a ghost. Otherwise you’ll have to take your pouches/fridge/biscuit-tin wherever you go if staying overnight.

Enjoy the XFR. Fab cars. I had the R-S for four and a half years. Great, but I had an F-Type itch to scratch.

There's no difference between Jag keys and those of other brands. The pouches are rubbish. I've tried several and they usually work when new and stop working a few days/weeks later.
