Today someone on a UK Jaguar forum posted this question and no one seems to know and I too are in the same boat. My 2006 X Type needs the fuel pump replacing but to get to the captive bolts behind the pully the engine needs to be in a set position how do I rotate the engine by hand? I have stripped the car down so can't crank it and doing that isn't accurate and there is no access to the crank unless I need a special tool?

The guy asking on the other forum is only asking out of interest but I need to know as I need my car fixed

What engine do you have? One of the petrol V6s or one of the Ford diesels?

You should be just about able to get a socket and breaker bar onto the crankshaft end bolt in the pulley and rotate it. Failing that, if you can get it in gear, rotating at least one road wheel (but the other must be on the ground) will turn the crankshaft using the gearbox - if it's a manual...
