F Type V8R - A few questions

Evening all, been tracking the various posts relating to the V8 F Type, so won’t ask the questions asked previously, however can anyone tell me the following:-
Found a car locally at an independent dealers and had a quick look yesterday.........on the face of it, it seemed a good car, however I’m slightly concerned that such places don’t carry the in-house knowledge of each and every model they sell, do people use independent inspection services and insist on a ramp inspection.....I know dealers don’t like this, but I’m not too bothered, it’s a lot of money
Is there an independent garage in the Sheffield area that people use for servicing/repairs or do people generally stick to the main dealers, in this case Hatfields
Do Coupe owners find it claustrophobic, does the pan roof make a difference
Are ceramic brakes viewed as a good option, or an expensive option that isn’t really needed for spirited road use
Are Jaguar warranties still available for 2014 cars
Going to view it later this week, so may well have a few more questions

I'll assume that the situation is the same for the F-Type as it is for the X150 XKR, you can get the full warranty until the car is 10 years old. After that they offer a very limited cover at a truly scary price. My car hit 10 this year and they were wanting over a grand to provide cover which was limited to a max of three grand for any one item. Their sales bod who rang to make sure I was going to renew didn't seem to know how to respond when I said it sounded like Jaguar thought there was a 1 in 3 chance of something serious breaking in the next year, based on these figures. I didn't take up the offer, but have had their full warranty since I bought the car about 7 years ago. I've never needed to claim. Fingers crossed I've not just tempted fate. Recently bought an F Type after three TVRs.
Bought from an independent and although they dealt with most things adequately still do your homework on something like the F Type forum.
Mine had full Jaguar service history except the last one by an independent (not the seller).
Everything seemed to check out ok except from the forum I found that it is essential to have the diff oil changed at the set time either by age or mileage. This wasn't listed on the last service when it should have been, so I asked the dealer to carry this out to which they agreed. I subsequently asked this to not be done and get it done by Jaguar when I got it home and accordingly the dealer gave me the money off the asking price - great. That is another story for another time as the local Jaguar dealer then told me whilst the car was in their workshop that they had misquoted the cost of the job, good customer relations, NOT!
I had looked at a very nice 15 plate R before my purchase and I did ensure I checked underneath for the rear chassis braces and that was scarily bad for a 5 year old car so I walked away.
I got a 3 month warranty with mine but to be honest I think it was not worth the paper it was written on but haven't had to use it, fingers crossed. I could have taken out a warranty (insurance type) with the dealer but have taken a gamble and not bothered. Time will tell if that is a good move???
I kept away from ceramics as I thought maintenance costs to be too scary although I understand there are options for this from posts on the forum.
Mine has a pan roof but I like it with the roof cover closed or open but would imagine that you would find it preferable to have it.
I certainly won't be using Jaguar to service it in the future.

I don't find mine any more claustrophobic than my Cerb was, if that helps seeing as you owned one. Mine does have the glass roof and it says closed almost all the time. even though it's tinted etc the glare of the sun is a pain, I find. The car looks better with it. After owning a V6 with no pano, I hunted for a V8 specifically with it and would def do so again despite it not being used much.Are ceramic brakes viewed as a good option, or an expensive option that isn’t really needed for spirited road use
I don't have ceramics so can only comment on the standard brakes - they aren't lacking in any way at all

I just bought a 69 plate AWD R with a Pano after an XFR-S. Not claustrophobic at all I find. A bit of a struggle getting 6’2” in gracefully but I’ve now found the technique, but I guess normal car parks will have to be given a miss
I too find the brakes more than adequate. Same callipers as the R-S at the front, but a little less weight and maybe different pads (for some reason) gives them a really good feel. I’m currently in a brand new R while they sort some paint on mine. First time out today in an F in the rain. Even on crappy Pirelli tyres it’s still very predictable.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I guess my main concern is about buying from an independent dealership, I’ve been a Company car driver since I was 21 and the only cars I’ve actually owned were the two TVRs and with them being so few in numbers, it’s not hard to trace/check the history of a particular car.
There is a guy on the F Type forum who will find your car's history if you give him the VIN number or registration number. He helped me with all history on the car I purchased.
I understood that ceramic brake pad replacements are around 1k for an oem set and even scarier for discs (10k?) but don't hold me to that. Enough to put me off.

It's the getting out gracefully that I find hard I too find the brakes more than adequate. Even on crappy Pirelli tyres it’s still very predictable.
Steel rotors/red calipers seem fine to me perhaps I drive like Miss Daisy? Certainly don't intend going on track with it.

The FTR grip on Pirelli isn't bad, but that'll mean MPS4S will be special.

It's a fair point and this car has only done circa 35k, but a grand as suggested previously for pads is still a bit steep I had a 4.5 Cerbera for 15 years. In that time I also had an F-Type V6S Coupe for a year (pan-roof, sports seats, 20"wheels) awesome car but not as much fun as the Cerb so sold it.
Decided to sell the Cerb last year, replaced it with an XKR full-fat supercharged 5.0 litre 510BHP Coupe, fitted MPS4's on it..... its fun.

If you go with Pagid, they are half the price of OEM. Type 8091 front and 8270 rear. You will save on steel discs what it will cost you on carbon pads. paddy1970 said:
