New to me F-type R
Discussion
Lovely car , I had a mate purchase one last week from a garage in Essex via the Autotrader , £35,989 with 27000 miles up . Sadly I have had five test drives and still cant make up my mind so I have held onto my X150 . I think the car looks best in Hardtop and like many can be colour sensitive , silver for me always looks pretty anonymous but strangely ok on certain XJ models . The Aston Martin Vantage 4.7 is the other problem , an equally beautiful machine with slightly better residuals , in some ways I have been grateful for lockdown as I havent had to make a decision on account of having nowhere to go . Good luck and enjoy .

I was in a similar situation, I had a V6S Coupe for a year but didn't quite do it for me, contemplated buying a V8R but couldn't justify the price so settled for a X150 XKR Coupe, supercharged 5 litre.... 510BHP is enough for me and 2 extra seats over the F-Type too. esso said:

I'm in the opposite situation - i have a 5.0 XKR and fancying a change, on paper the V6S F-type is 4.8s to 60 and my car is 4.6s so I expected them to feel fairly similar in pace. I drove a V6S convertible last week and it felt positively gutless. The noise was lovely, even coming from a V8 but it just didn't feel exciting. Wondered if there was something wrong with that particular F-type, would you concur that the XKR feels a lot quicker in a straight line than the V6S F-type?8bit said:

I suspect you know the answer to your conundrum and its called another V8 , the R . I think had you bought the V6 you would always have felt curious regarding the V8R ?esso said:

I genuinely think its a difficult choice , as you say the V8R is what , £35k northwards for a good one ? Another thing I notice with some of these F Types is the panel fit where the nose cone meets the wing , I was browsing one at a Jaguar Dealership in Droitwich in an unusual colure for an F Type Saphirre Blue and the eye was immediately drawn to the poor panel alignment .https://listers.co.uk/used/cars/jaguar/f-type/5.0_...

The key thing (to my relatively untutored mind!) is that X150 XK and F-type are both off the same D6a platform. So underneath the shiny new F-type is essentially an XK with four inches cut out the wheelbase and shorter overhangs. So a 380ps V6 would probably feel like an N/A V8 in normal driving, it’s only when you hammer it for the 0-60 that the supercharger and better transmission shows up and gets you the time.

So you're probably right as it turns out. The XKR has more power and torque than I ever really use, I thought since the V6S showed similar 0-60 times that the weight advantage and better transmission must make up for the engine defecit. The V8s are still a bit beyond my budget just now but I thought the V6S might be a better handling and more modern Jag than my XKR but in reality it just made me appreciate how special the car I have is. Maybe with a pulley upgrade and a remap, but I think I'll wait until a V8R is within reach.

I couldn't disagree with any of that especially the part about the specialness of the X150 XKR , you may find comparable power in an F Type V8 R but you wont find that same luxury GT you have been used to as its simply a different type of car aimed at a different marketplace . I am in a similar position though my conundrum is more to do with making the right choice as like yourself I tend to hang onto cars for a couple of years . I struggle a little with some of the F Types visual aspects and the switchgear doesnt feel that special either . It can also feel quite claustrophobic which I suppose was Jaguars reason for fitting the glass roof . Its either the V8 R , the Vantage or an XKR S and each of these models have their own drawbacks so with result I have been reading instead of buying which perhaps is the wrong thing to do . Great to see you still enjoying the XKR .@fatboy, congrats on your new car, absolutely stunning.

Love that blue, with the exception of Firesand, it’s a shame there are no bright colours available on the 2014-2015 models, also does the Italian Racing Red look much better in the adverts than it does in the flesh......or is it just me?
OP how are you finding the Coupe, my intention was always to get a Convertible as it’s a replacement for the Tamora and I wanted something different to my everyday car?Despite my comments above I looked at one local to me in Italian Racing Red, which on the face of it looks a good car and I’m sorely tempted!
