Seems all you can post about is issues with c02 and other emission problems. Why don’t you sod off somewhere else and bleat.

Precisely, I own Mercedes, Jaguars and have owned VW in the past. I don’t want to sue any of them, even if I get a few pieces of silver out of it. Who do you think makes the most out of these money grubbing schemes? Lawyers. Who do you think pays for it in the end of the day? Car buyers.

VW got found out, not aware of any other manufacturer.

In anyevent, vw owners benefitted by lower tax rates, no basis at all for any other claim - for what exactly?

I am pretty sure Mercedes lost a class action in the States for the very same thing and have been ordered to pay out.

They probably did. American lawyers have the sharpest noses for a big stationary target. You have to be agile these days. You have to make no money, like Starbucks. You need to avoid becoming a target for the lawyers.

If you are a Mercedes. Audi or BMW driver, you will end up paying for the Wall Street lawyers big houses yachts and, yes, Hypercars. The rest of us will pay. It’s just a fraud.

It’s important to check the small print on these schemes. There was a Mercedes one I came across. I think there are two main ones in the UK. One says it can take 6-10 years to get your money back. There is no guarantee of a payout and if they do it will be £250-500 after their cut. The concerning parts are that your details can be accessed by the Mercedes lawyers and there is a risk of a counter claim or something related to libel. These German auto giants have an army of lawyers. I doubt a UK firm would ever stand a chance. It’s not worth it in my view but each to their own. I think there is a time and place for class action and in my opinion it’s like copying what goes on in the US.

Agreed.

I think it was the Leigh Day Mercedes claim small print I read and there is a deliberately vague clause in there that seems to suggest that if they lose the case then claimants collectively could be liable for Mercedes costs.

Leigh Day take out insurance cover in readiness for that outcome but it appears it only covers their costs, not Mercedes costs if LD lose, and those costs could be pretty big even if they are shared amongst all claimants.

They make it appear that all you have to do is sign up and wait for your cheque if they win the case at no cost to youself, with no downsides.

Externalities - it's the environment which wears the cost - a message frequently forgotten.

The lawyers are just doing their job like everyone else.
Who's speaking up for the shrinking glaciers & plant & animal species impacted by climate change? You?

Should cheating environmental legal obligations be ignored?
What message does that send to industry & everyone else?

Are the lawyers doing it for the benefit of the environment or do they see an opportunity to make loads of money.

I wonder smile

And the taxpayer. All this stuff comes out of your pocket one way or another.

There's a programme coming up soon called 'Elitist Polluters'. Well what did they expect? Tax the ordinary people out of their cars and you only have the rich left! They wanted the 'polluter to pay'. Well they are. Take the tax revenue and do something useful with it.

If the lawyers were remotely interested in saving the planet they'd be in Russia, China and India lobbying Putin and Co. But they'd be told to fk off and wouldn't make any money. So they fill their boots with the next Big Wheeze (now that PPI's over), and if they win, the car makers will be fined billions, and they will pass it on to you next time you buy a car. By 'claiming' you just made your life more expensive. And none of it will have any effect on the glaciers.
