X Type buying advice

Good morning ,
Bit of advice if I may please .
I am considering buying an X Type , it will be a facelift 08/09 model year , diesel , auto and more than likely an SE spec or Sovereign if I can find one , sub 50k miles with low owners and decent history.
General maintenance and other normal running costs are not a concern but I wanted to get some sort of understanding from the knowledgeable folk on here regarding any known issues that may result in a big bill coming in .
All vehicles have their " known / common " problems that have the potential to crop up and this is the crux of my question .

I had a 2.2d estate for about 7 months alongside my first XF. Bought it to do a 100 mile each way commute and keep the miles down on the XF. It has a truly awful soggy ride compared to the XF. I sold it as it was costing more to run than the XF to buy as it always seemed to be going wrong. It was a 55 plate, I had it in 2013 with 57k on it. The interior is also a bit naff. All round let down really. Much much better cars out there.

Some people's soggy is other people's comfortable! I also like the interior; much nicer than the usual 'black plastic with silver bits' that bedevil every current car.OP, don't be put off by one person saying it might have rusty sills - go and test drive one (when you can), then you can make your own judgement.

I am going to view a car on Saturday which has 48k , one owner , main and specialist history which looks in very nice order , 09 SE spec estate , they also have a XF so this will be on my radar whilst there .
Watch this space as I may take a punt .

Unfortunately my inspection didn't go too well on Saturday , the boot well was found to be full of water , AC not cooling efficiently , a poor paint repair to the left front fender and a busted left hand door mirror .
Having tried to negotiate the price with these issues in mind coupled with the need for its annual service this month I was met with zero flexibility , pity really as the car ticked a lot of boxes .
The search continues and XF is now also on my radar , I also missed out on a 08 27,000 mile X Type SE estate , which was a tad frustrating .

Zero flexibility is annoying I agree. The issues were to be expected on a car of that age - whilst I know the S-Type is a different car they have the 'water in boot' issue and it's solved by drilling a hole in the bottom.
Priivate or dealer? Dealers are supposed to be doing C&C only.

What would you offer in return for the margin you'd make on it?(Now I think you meant 'from' not 'for')
We've run a couple of these over the years. I really like them, and found them comfortable, reasonably paced, and decent to drive. Couple of things I found to be a poor feature.
1) Front sub frame rots quite badly.
2) On one of the cars, the wiring had pressed up against the alternator (maybe A/C pump) pulley, and worn holes in the wires, so the electricity got out. still ran, but dashboard was as Christmas. I don't know if this is a common thing?
but let's be fair, they are made by Ford, and diesel powered by Peugeot. What's not to like? And at a couple of grand, so much the better.

Firstly , many thanks for all the input and comments . After a bit of re-negotiation I managed to strike a deal on this car to include putting the dodgy paint right. Took delivery on Saturday and it is currently going through a major service and inspection with no major problems being identified , so all in all very happy .
If I can work out how to upload photos I will do so when I get it back , next question is whether to keep the SLK for the summer or move it on !!
