Apparently it's frowned upon to put your girlfriend's daughter in the boot of an MX-5, so I'm back in the Jaguar fold with an XF Sportbrake.

Happy to be here to be fair - my local Jaguar dealership are excellent.

Strangely enough I'm considering making the same move (MX-5 to XF Sportbrake, I don't have a girlfriend or abduct other people) - how has the change been for you thus far? Is it enjoyable to drive and keeping itself well?

I guess you mean Marshall’s in Milton? They used to be very good, but have gone way way down hill recently.

Ahh I see! How come if I may ask?

Not quite, I was more interested in the adaptation from 2 seater sports car to mid sized estate car - I don't imagine it to drive daintily like an MX5 but does it feel good still to drive?

I had an diff issue with my R-S in the last lockdown. They pretty much told me to go away until they opened again. They were only doing NHS and key worker’s cars. I went to an indy that was working. Great service too. Then Marshall’s got in contact in the middle of May to,say they were opening June 1st, and were now taking bookings for the 2nd week in July, but they weren’t doing courtesy cars.

Then recently I contacted them for an mot for next month, and they’re charging stupid amounts for a courtesy car, both for having one and then more to insure it.

Obviously it's a completely different car so I'd summarise by saying where the MX-5 was FUN the XF is just effortlessly relaxing. Such a calming place to be.

Hopefully in years to come we'll be able to justify having one of each - something fun and something calm.

Oof, I had heard that they pretty much totally shut during Lockdown 1.

Unfortunate if they (or the powers that be) are hiking prices due to Covid or not being given flexibility to work with reasonable precautions in place.

I've got both & think they are a great combination! 2015 ND 2.0 Sport Nav (?) that I have had for 3 years & 2013 3.0 Premium Luxury owned for 18 months. Latter was picked up for about £11000 with 80k miles and is great as a daily & so much better than the Passat estate that it replaced.
Bit of an MX-5 fanboy, had an NB then a Z4 but am pleased with to be back in a Mazda.
Looking at Autotrader, it appears that I haven't taken a big hit on depreciation on either.

I purchased a Sportbrake just before Christmas as my MINI Cooper Clubman ate its timing chain (I had changed oil and filter every 10k so expected more than the 120k it stopped at) I already have a TVR into which I installed a Jag AJ30 engine last year - 265bhp. Loving the wafting in luxury the Jag is giving)

I won't be surprised if I end up with an MX-5 again - I love the ND - had a 2015 Sport Nav soft top, and then a 2019 ND2 GT Sport Nav+.

We need something practical for now and can't justify running 2 cars at the moment, but we've already said that in a few years time we'll probably look at getting a small run around, and an MX-5 will fit that bill nicely.
