does anyone have a 'best route' for the cabling?

You'll maybe get a better response in the 'In - car electronics' section.

Depends on how you want to install it and how much trim you want to take off.

Most of the ‘lazy’ installs I’ve seen is people just tucked it under the headlining, down the A pillar and tied it up behind the dash and plugged it into the auxiliary power port

Don't mind taking trim off, just don't want to break any plastic clips etc.
Obviously a sequence of panel removal.
How would you do it?

Go to YouTube and look up JagFan Hilton he has at least 3 videos on the subject.

Where are you wiring the cam to?

I’ve got front and rear cams and a battery backup. The backup sits in the centre armrest compartment and is fed from the 12v supply there. So this is what I did.

Pop the front of the roof liner down, remove the a-pillar trim (screws). Remove the dashboard end cap. Feed the supply wire across the roof and down the a-pillar. Pull the door rubbers from the top of the openings. Carefully remove the b-pillar trim (Screws again). Feed the rear cam wire above the roof panel taking note not to leave it in front of the air bag. Carry on feeding the wire to the rear cam. Bit fiddly on the sport brake to get the wire to the top of the tailgate, but can be done.

Feed the supply through the dashboard and under the edge of the centre console. Might need to remove some fixings to get the wire to the battery back up.

Alternatively, on jaginfo there’s a couple of great guys that run a Sunday club in Stoke who’ll do it for free when all this lockdown crap ends. Or have a look on the website as there’s plenty of ‘how-to’ guides there.

Brilliant fatboy

I'll do the front as you've stated, the rear I have just plugged into the power outlet in that area (drivers side) as I have a nice curly lead which works well with the opening/closing of the tailgate. I wasn't looking to use a battery back up but will check that out.

Easier way is to take a feed from the fusebox in the driver's footwell. Shorter cable run and there is space behind the dash end-cap at the driver's side for any volage reducers/battery backup.

That's how I did it.

where in the fuse box did you take the power?

I have a BlackVue back up. It’s not small, so had to go in the centre console compartment. So it made sense to use the 12v plug in.

Sorry for the late reply.

I took a tap from fuse 28 using one of the inexpensive piggyback connectors. At first it seems like a permanent live but it powers down when the doors are locked.

Hi. Dash cam installed. Used fuse 29 which is front passenger heated seat for the piggyback. It looks like this is permanently live though. Which fuse would be better?
