My 2013 XF 3.0S Sportbrake is telling me that the battery is low, and is switching off the climate control etc. My local indie is saying that when a new battery (I presume that's what is needed as a new alternator was fitted recently) is fitted the car needs to be 'told' that it has a different battery. So my question is, if I buy a new one from, say, Eurocarparts, etc. and fit it myself, will it cause any problems, I'm sure I'm not going to be the first to fit a non JLR battery to an XF! Has anyone had any experience of this please??
The modern Jaguars have a Battery Management System (BMS). If you ensure the battery is fully charged before fitting you can sometimes get away with it, but it is best practice to have the car 'plugged in' to diagnostics where the BMS can be reset so it can re-calibrate to the new battery.

This is what I did with my S-Type. I also connected my Li-ion jump-start pack across the leads to ensure that 12V was maintained whilst changing it. Worked for me!littleredrooster said:

Maybe all part of a cunning plan to make you go to a JLR dealer and pay £500 for a battery and £500 to fit it?
All this 'tech' should not be necessary.
Very probably. All this 'tech' should not be necessary.
I'll add the new battery malarkey to the already long list of reasons I have a twenty year old Jaguar and not a two year old one...
