Used S-Type R - what to look for?
Discussion
Hello all,
My first post here, so please bear with me ;-)
I am looking at a used 02/02 S-Type R from a Jag dealer. Been to drive it this weekend, they'd just taken it in so it wasn't prepared, so I may have to go back and look at it again.
On the test drive, there was nothing out of the ordinary, save a slight nervousness at the front end that they'll look at before sale. I also didn't notice the famous "lurch".
My question is - is there anything in particular I need to look out for on a car like this? It's quite high mileage, but didn't seem tired, noisy or otherwise under par. The key was very flappy in the ignition, come to think of it, which was a bit odd, but maybe normal?
I liked the car - especially the performance - and as it's from a Jag dealer should be a fairly stress-free purchase, but if there's anyhtin in paticular to look out for, any input would be much appreciated.

Hi o.versteer,
Not a lot to really watch out for. Look for wear on the inside adges of the front tyres - when that happens they do tramline and get nervous-ish. Otherwise could be suspension bushes. Make sure the dealer has applied the TSB apdate on toe spec - the fronts will wear the inside like hell if it hasnt been done. Floppy key definitely doesnt sound right - mine insnt at all - check so see if it's a stolen/recovered maybe ?. Take a look at the discs (lip at the outer edge) and get the dealer to tell you how much life is left in them. I had mine replaced at 26k miles - discs seem to be softer than pads these days. Mine doesnt have the lurch either - I guess it only affects some cars. Then the usual stuff - FSH dealer warranty etc.
Other than that Happy Motoring if you decide to buy - come and see us at the R-Club too ....
Cheers,
LaurieB
