Just watched an episode of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, and the very nice grey XJS they're driving seems to have a carpeted shelf instead of rear seats. Was this a factory option?

Was it a convertible? If so, the first ones, up to 6-litre introduction, didn't have rear seats (due to structure strengthening after roof removal, changed with updates in '93 (or thereabouts).

Yes it was. So no XJS's up to 1993 had rear seats?

Was it a cabriolet or full convertible? Either could be ordered with or without rear seats. I've had them with and without seats and generally prefer them without.

Coupes always had rear seats.

I think the latter but not sure. The other team was driving a TVR S1, so the producer seems to like cars.

The cabriolet has the T-bar and pop out roof panels. The full convertible is a bit self explanatory biggrin No rear seat is more useful as you get a lockable box where the back seats were.

Indeed, I claimed uncertainly was because I couldn't remember exactly what it looked like...

Ah, sorry. I hadn't considered that as they're very different to me.
