Hi,

I have a 2015 Jaguar XE that has always been main dealer serviced...despite the eye watteringly high prices (I self service my Porsches so have a fairly good idea of how long things take and how much oil costs!).

Having called up today to book a service and MOT I was told that they would be charging £33.50 for a courtesy car. I have never had to pay for a car before and whilst the fee isn't exorbitant, the sentiment grates a little.

Is this normal now?

Thanks in advance

Jag dealer i used started charging years ago.

Dont get a merc if this bothers you as they charge you to wait in the waiting room for your car while its serviced and charge you more if you want a loan car. If you dont want to pay you have to stand in the car park while you wait.

Jag dealers have turned from incompetent idiots to incompetent s.

Just avoid them and your life will be a whole lot happier.

Are you sure that there isn't a charge to lower the excess on the loan car insurance? That's the only loan car related charge we pass on to customers, that and return the car with the same amount of fuel (Mercedes dealer)

No it was positioned as a charge for having a courtesy car. I would have understood if they were charging for the insurance excess.

Oh I see, that's a bit off.

Not at all Mercedes dealers. Like with Jaguar this is down to how each dealer wishes to treat their customers. I use a Mercedes dealer where there is no extra charge for having a courtesy car or use of the lounge with free hot/cold drinks and snacks.
Maybe try another Jaguar dealer.

Problem is only 1 merc and 1 jag dealer are reasonably close. I use a local garage instead as i object to being charged to wait for my car when im already being charged a premium for the service

I would never buy another merc purely because of this , dealer treats the customer as a money making machine zero customer service

Whatever, I would be very careful taking a loan car, give it a careful inspection before you leave.

I had one when my XF was in for a new seat cover. Though I had the car two days, it was used to drive home and back and was garaged in between.

When I picked up my car I was dragged through a childish pantomime of ‘inspecting’ the loan car when a small scuff on the rear sill was pointed out to me and the service guy blatantly suggested that I’d caused it.

I corrected his suggestion and he eventually backed down.

I won’t have another loaner from them and won’t be buying another car from them either, good as it has been, the dealer service spoils things.
