Excuse this slightly nerdy question but...

There's an X308 XJR (2000 my I think) for sale which looks pretty nice, potentially just what I'm looking for. However it appears from the pictures that it doesn't have the embossed 'XJR' steering wheel. Instead it has just the 'roaring' jaguar face embossed into it, like a standard XJ8 (still wood / leather though). It does have the sports seats but it has light beige coloured carpets and I think either figured or burr walnut everything else.

My question to anyone who might know is could this non-XJR steering wheel have been ordered as an option when new? I'm wandering if it might have been part of the "classic colour keyed interior theme" option pack - I believe the XJR came standard with the "sport warm charcoal interior theme" - yes, I'm nerdy and obsessed enough to have purchased an old brochure.

My two concerns are that it may have been crashed and the wheel replaced with the wrong one, or that its actually a standard XJ8 that's been enthusiastically converted into a XJR replica. I would do an online check for its possible crash history but the registration isn't shown in any of the pics or details.

I'll try and attach a photo I've found showing a SIMILAR interior, please ignore the chrome rings around the speedo, rev counter etc.

Any help would be much appreciate, thanks in advance!

The leather looks to be a different colour. And the wood on the XJR is more of a baby poo brown than walnut burr.
It could have been replaced out of preference. I personally went to great lengths to get a complete set of walnut burr for my LHD 98 XJR, as I hate the baby poo brown!
Maybe just chat to the seller? He may answer your questions wink

Thanks mickrick, I think you're right I think quite a few like yourself have deliberately changed the darker wood for the traditional burr walnut, I believe they're quite easy to replace, just clip on and clip off? I actually didn't mind the darker wood (Sport Warm Charcoal it's officially called) although I will always now think of it and see it as baby poo brown!

Actually the car in question has turned out to be a genuine XJR with an impressive history, and the light coloured carpets and normal walnut trim etc were it seems definitely part of a no cost option pack called "classic colour keyed interior theme", I suppose for traditionalists who might have found the XJR interior a bit too dark or sporty or something. I've seen quite a few others around now which seem to have this option so I'm not too worried about it, in fact I think I probably do prefer it apart from the steering wheel not saying XJR, I'm sure I could get hold of that part though easily enough.

I love mine, albeit in bits at the moment, getting new cam chains and tensioners, water pump, tensioner upgrades, rebuilt supercharger, valley hoses etc. etc. Doing it all myself, and in no rush. For a 1.8 ton car they're a rocket ship! smile

Looks pristine! Can’t wait to get mine, just waiting for the right car to come along. There’s a few out there for sale but the really good one I had my eye on unsurprisingly got snapped up quickly, there’s a couple more that look decent I’ve seen but also some unbelievable dogs that have been so neglected and mistreated but with joke price tags! Test driving a bit awkward too at the moment what with Covid and all that.
