Ruining an X308!
Discussion
Late last year I bought a VERY cheap XJ8 Executive to use in a banger rally to Barcelona next month.
Needless to say the rally has been cancelled. But the Jag will now be joining me to Nice next June.
We decided a funny theme would be a racing car, so over the past few weeks I've been stripping it, and today there was some serious progress (and a bit of sunburn!).
Back seats out! Found £8.80 under the rear bench!
Not sacrificing comfort!
And you'd never have know there was an electric aerial!
Next steps are to look at the rear door skins and window motors, and maybe the dash.
I know this isn't anything like making a real racing car, it's just for fun.

So today's task is actually a fix, rather than ruining the car.
Gear selection is via a Bowden cable that runs from the lever to the underside of the car. This being a British motor, naturally it's in the most exposed place JLR could think of and the end is very corroded and sticking. Changing gear from the cabin has gone from difficult to impossible.
So changing gear with dismantling oil and a pry bar takes us from Park:
To Drive:
Excuse the filter, but it highlights the cable reasonably well. A few hundred iterations of moving this whilst lying on the ground under the car and hopefully we'll have a gear selector cable that's freed up enough to actually adjust and hopefully we'll be able to start the car in Park as well as Neutral!!

Well the carpets are out. (Lewis's Friend, I have kept the mats for you but haven't posted them yet.)
If you look closely you'll see something that shouldn't be inside a car - outside. In each corner the car has rusted completely through.
Oops.
I'm a bit attached to the old girl, so once my lift is installed in August, I'm going to take a serious look at cutting out the worst bits and welding in some new metal. It's probably way beyond my skills, but fortunately my dad is an exceptional metalworker and time served mechanic, so if it is salvageable, it'll give him a project to stop him getting bored now he's retired.
