Hi all, I’m wondering if you may have some advice for picking a garage?
To cut a very long story short we have to replace the engine in a 66plate jag.
I’ve looked at lots of quotes from garages, and they all seem to be approx the same price, around £4000.
I’ve looked at online reviews and most are quite mixed, is there anything I should be looking for with a garage or any warning signs of a bad garage?
Any help would be appreciated

£4000 just to swap, or to supply and fit?

If supply and fit, if it a new or S/H engine ?

Are they offering a warranty ?

Which jaguar is it and which engine ?

What happens if things break on removal ?

What happens if they find things that need addressing while engine is removed ?

You question is too vague for people to really help you I'm afraid.

Thanks for your reply. The £4000 was for supply and fitting with a 12 month warranty. This seemed to be about average For the quotes I had.
I hadn’t thought about what would happen if the garage break anything while fitting so that is a really good point thank you 😀

Is it a manual?

Might be worth doing a clutch ?

Is it an auto, might be worth doing a gearbox service.

There are more questions than answers 😁😁😁

Have you tried main dealer as there are protocols in place to dish out goodwill. Worth a shout I would’ve thought

Goodwill needs a protocol? That's like Campbell saying to Blair 'On Tuesday you will be spontaneous'!

The OP hasn’t said anything about whether he’s stayed in the network for servicing and if you were a manufacturer would you give someone goodwill that has left the network once the warranty has run out?

The guys at Sovereign Motors, Bristol should be able to help you, whether that is quoting for the job or pointing you in the right direction.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks everyone:-) and thanks for the recommendation of the garage
I get the post doesn’t have all the details but we are at a point now where we really just Needed some advice on signs to spot with a good and not so good garage for a job like this.
It’s bee 6 mths since original breakdown and we’ve exhausted pretty much every option other than having a used engine fitted.
This is following 6 mths or arguing with warranty company to pay the remaining half, unfortunately they want the engine stripped before assessing the claim and after looking at their reviews online we don’t feel that they would pay even if we did have the engine stripped.
So lots of hard and expensive lessons learnt.
We just really need the car back and running now, so any garage do’s and don’ts are greatly appreciated :-)

I seem to recall a Warranty company who Directly told someone on here that they wouldn't be paying out for their BMW M5 engine that failed. Long legal wrangle later and they honoured the claim.
Not sure if the original thread still exists mind you! But, bleh that sounds so annoying!
