Considering my post lockdown purchase and a V6 XE is top of the list. I ideally need four doors and there isn't really anything else that I fancy. Good performance, decent looks and plenty of kit all seem to be there in the right XE. I'd be buying an approved used car and budget is around £25k. So I'd expect cars on the approved used site at £27k to be in budget.

Anyone got one and want to share their views?

C43 is the only other option. Drive would, I'm sure be great, but the saloon doesn't really look special, the way a Firenze red on 20" wheels does!

Thanks all.

We've had our XE S 380 for a year now and frankly.........

It's bloody brilliant! smile

If you're a keen driver you'll really appreciate the excellent balance and handling, the crisp turn in and suppleness of the suspension. We have the 19" wheels though which probably help over the 20" versions.

And it's properly fast for a small but handsome, and dare I say, unassuming looking saloon. Bit of a Q Car perhaps? 0-60(62) in 4.5(4.8) seconds and prodigious mid range grunt gives the car serious ability to make ground on your favourite A and B roads. When you take it out of dynamic mode it settles back into a quiet comfortable mile muncher, wafting along like Jags of old. Well almost hehe

Packaging wise, it's fine for my three person family. Despite reviews complaining about space in the rear, I can fit behind my driving position no problem, and I'm 6'2", although probably not for a long journey. The optional folding rear seats are good to have, meaning two large suitcases and numerous squashy bags when it's used for airport transport.

Fuel economy, if you're bothered, is averaging 28.5mpg. Longer journeys using cruise and speed limits will easily see 35+mpg

So in summary for us, it's a fast, good handling, good looking yet under the radar saloon car, and no problems to report in the last year. In fact we've never had any real problems with the various petrol powered Jags we've had over the last 12 years or so.

That's great - thank you. And the kind of thing I was hoping to hear! I agree about the whole Q Car thing, but I also think they're a very good looking car in the right colour.

Looking forward to a post Covid test drive.

Completely agreed.

I'm a few months into ownership and it's a genuinely great all-rounder. Unobtrusive, well made, quick and smooth, and great to drive. It's not a huge car on the inside but that's what I was looking for.

My father had two V6s in a row and only moved on to a smaller car (A35 AMG) as he found them a bit big for what he was using them for.

He absolutely loved them.

Great engine/gearbox combo, great handling.

As above, they have a real split personality. Pootle about happily, then put your foot down and it sounds like a man in the boot is shouting, and you're half a mile down the road. hehe

It's interesting that I don't think I've ever seen anybody say anything negative about the V6 if they've owned one.

I really do now want one!

Just buy carefully. Both the V6 and the V8 in my XF (basically the same engine) have design issues with oiling the top end, and chain tensioners. If you’re really unlucky like I was, they can suffer manufacturing issues with the hardening (or lack of) of the tappets. Mine had to have a new head last year. An £11k rebuild under warranty luckily.

Interesting. I've not heard of that. I had a V6 TT and that engine always had owners worrying! Fortunately, I don't think I'd ever run one out of warranty.
