After much time away from the Marque I think it’s time to return. Been driving an Uber reliable ML350 blue efficiency for a couple of years. Dependable but boring.

So I’m looking at either X350 XJR or ST R.

Have previously had both XJR6 and ST Sport how do they compare? Performance, Economy, Daily foibles, warts n all. Has anyone had both?

Thanks in advance.

Must say there is also a hankering for 4.2 XKR. 2nd Shape

Welcome back Cooky, I'd not waste time - just buy the XKR you know that if you don't that every time you see one out on the road you'll only regret it.

That's an XK, not an XKR - unless you just posted it to show the generation you meant?

It's got chrome gills, but they could have been retrofitted.

The front radiator grilles and foglamps are per an XK, they're different on the XKR. No horizontal chrome bar across the upper grille on an XKR, the lower grille is a different shape and the foglamps are smaller and in part-mesh panels. An XKR would have an R badge on the bottom spoke of the steering wheel, that car hasn't got one. If it is an XKR then someone has gone to a lot of time and trouble to make it look like an XK smile

So good to see how things don’t change much in PH Land.

On a practical note, if practicality is a factor, the S-Type is infinitely better than the XK/R. You can get 6'x'4 stage flats and even dining tables in the back.

I had two S-Types over 12 years and loved them. Any current Jag is like a van in terms of ride.

I had a Sport 200

Lovely looking thing. All black on black
Thing is I when on a ‘spirited’ drive I kept saying to myself ‘this isn’t like a “real” Jag, My XJR wouldn’t do this or my XJS would’ve done that.
On a long run on the motorway it was lovely. Comfy, but just underpowered. I’m sure the R would be quite different.

A bit of research suggests that '200' appears to be the code for 1999-2002 models - was it the 2.5?

Yes it was a supposedly limited run of 200 sports models. Nice alloys. Dechromed and looked like an R from the outside apart from the black grille.

If you meant that at me for pointing out the photos you posted were not an XKR then I apologise if I came across as pedantic - just wanted to be sure you knew that wasn't an XKR!

No. ‘twas more at the directness of the Anorak comment. Subtle yet delivered with the grace of former days.
As for your ‘shape’ I can hardly comment upon your love handles, my dear.

XK or XKR both of the X150 cars are fabulous cars. Dam sexy looking especially on 20in wheels, with adequate pick up and go. Both sound fantastic especially with aftermarket exhaust systems, and that automatic rev match on the down change wink
I have had both, still have the XKR for every day use.
