X308 XJR water leak into boot

Wondering if anyone has encountered this issue and if they've located the source of the water ingress? See pic attached, I was pottering around with car earlier and I noticed the spare wheel was sitting in a few inches of water. Pumped the water out, dried everything off and found some latex gloves stuffed into a hole under the tray where the battery sits on the right hand side. Removed them and a load more water came flooding into the boot. Not sure if this is original source of leak but no other internal areas of car are wet. Nightmare. Who knows how long the boot has been sitting like this. Never noticed this (or the gloves) before
