Jag XJ 2017 Drivers Arm Rest Storage Console?

Hi all, new to me XJ owner here, can any assist me please?

In the Storage console, the one where you plug in your USB stick, Sim Card etc.

On the far left hand side there appears to be a small bright orange strap, does anybody know what it's for or have an image of the inside on the console? Some sort of cover seems to be missing from mine and I can't really find any reference to it in the hand book as to what this looks like or what the strap is for.

Don't pull it, sounds familiar that!

Anyway, it appears that it's the Emergency hand brake! it should have a cover mine hasn't, one on order so at least I know what it's for.

I only use the handbrake in traffic queues. For everything else there's 'Park'

But I do like the idea of saying 'Engaging the Emergency Handbrake, Captain!'



I think maybe if you pull it the wheels will jettison.

Slight correction I have been reliably informed the the Orange strap is in fact:-

The Emergency gearbox release, to get the car in neutral in order to aid recovery.

It appears it should have a cover, mines gone walkies, so now got one on order.
