I'm looking to take on the family Jag, currently owned by my folks, as a 3rd car used for commuting only. They're looking to scrap or we buy any car it so I said I'd take it as my commuter car.

Insurance companies automatically value it as £1500 although other valuations are £500 if part ex, we buy etc.

The dilemma is 3rd party fire and theft cover or fully comp ? there is £45 of a difference per year. I'm wondering if there is any benefit to fully comp if the car is that worthless, thoughts ?

It's a 2003 s type 3.0 V6 SE (I think) with circa 115k miles.

For the sake of £45 I'd go Fully Comp.

Good cars the 3.0's, should see you well.

Cheers,

Chris

Touch wood, apart from tyres, brakes and the odd spring for an MOT it's been reliable.

Although it did bring up the DSC/ABS fault and clunky gearbox which cleared itself, which makes me think the original battery is on its way out.

Yep electrics are their weak point, regardless of model and age!

An iffy battery is quite often the cause, especially at this time of year with low temps and lots of things drawing lots of juice.

Does TPFT include windscreen cover?

I used to go fully comp on old bangers purely so I didn't have to pay £300 for a heated screen
