Hello - I am looking for any insight in to the costs involved with replacing the canvas on a 2008 XKR. The fabric is showing its age from flexing, and lets the car down.

From the dealer the canvas cover on its own is over $5,000 by the time you add tax, and I suspect there are other items you change at the same time. I haven't even talked to their service team about labour costs - but it is feeling like this is easily approaching $7,000 if I go to the dealer.

Any alternatives? Any after market tops people have used? Is it unrealistic for an owner to do it themselves?

Cheers,

Rob.

Sorry about being late to the party !
I had to get my convertible top replaced about a year ago.
I'm in Florida, so probably have different environmental problems than in Canada !
In my case, the rear (glass) window was seperating from the canvas.
I used a local upholstery shop recommended by my Jag Indie. It cost around $2000 (US) for the canvas top, and took them a day to do.
They gave me a choice of 2 suppliers, and I picked the 'best/most expensive' - Hartz I think.

They sub-contract for the local dealers (probably the Jag dealer too). Most common top replacement they said ?? Mini Cooper convertible.

thanks for all the feedback.

A shop is quoting $3,000 CDN - so not too bad - but this will be their own creation. I will have to see what quality of work they do on other cars before I consider committing to having them do it. It does cut the cost in half when compared to the dealer.

The roof lets the car down, but isn't yet "shot", so I will be putting it off for a while.
