Hi All,

I'm currently considering a 2014 Jaguar XFR, i've fancied one for a few years now and finally in a good position to scratch the itch.
I've picked up the general view that they aren't the most reliable of cars, but i understand no performance car will be as reliable as a PD130 VW. I've currently got an Alfa Romeo Giulia, so i'm used to the odd issue.

Just wondered if any owners are able to share their experiences regarding reliability.

Thanks,

fatboy b

Generally bullet proof cars depending on the age/mileage. If it’s getting leggy, then they’re heavy cars that can wear their suspension. Tyres are key. Very key. If it doesn’t have them, get Michelin PS4S on it. It’s a lively back end anyway, but they make it less so.

Have a really good listen to the engine on cold start-up and cold tick over. Two things. Chain tensioners on start up can rattle and tappets on tick over can tick - a noise that’s louder than the injectors.. Mine had both done under warranty. £3000 for the chain tensioners, then £11k for a £6 failed tappet (not hardened properly when manufactured) that also screwed one of the heads. One new head and the other refurbed. 16 new valves, 16 reground valves and a decoke on one side. 32 new tappets and all the ancillaries. They are far from being a bullet proof engine sadly, but I was unlucky apparently, although all under warranty. Get a decent warranty!

Driving experience is second to none for the size of car. A well sorted chassis that’s a lot of fun, and incredibly planted when pushing on. Not a lot will touch it 30-70+. You can’t keep your foot planted for more than a few seconds without getting illegal, which makes mapping them a tad pointless, but each to their own. My R-S has broken traction at 50 and 100 with my foot hard down in the warm and dry. It’ll make you smile lots.

More or less what he said. I have no wish to tempt fate, but ours has given 77,000 hard driven, trouble free miles so far. Bridgestone Potenzas work well as Summer tyres, Nokians on a spare set of rims for the Winter. Ignore Jaguar's 16,000 mile oil service intervals, change it twice as frequently, and you'll improve your chances.
Don't take it to Wales; you'll get demands for £100 in the post upon your return.

Part exchanged my 2012 XFR earlier this year after having it 3 years only because I now need something a bit more practical and economical - read boring. Mine had over 70k miles, with a full Jag SH and had always been under Jag warranty under my ownership - basically wanted for nothing. Apart from some relatively minor warranty claims it never let me down.

However, I have since found out from the new owner that shortly after he purchased the car it suffered a timing chain failure and has lunched the engine. So like has been said they are far from bullet proof it would seem. Wonderful cars though and I'd have another but would want a cast iron warranty..!!

Excellent, thanks for the responses all, very much appreciated.

In summary, good cars, but have a good listen to them cold, and anything even slightly tappy, run a mile? smile
Oh, and get a good comprehensive warranty.

Got it

Thanks all
