So the first service for an XE diesel at main dealer is c£450! How do they justify charging that much for what is basically oil/filter and pollen filter change???

I know the intervals are every 2 years/21k miles but if the service is artificially twice the price the owner is not saving anything.

I'll be back to DIY'ing as soon as the warranty is up.

You don’t have to take it to a Jag MD anyway?
Any VAT garage will suffice and keep your warranty as long as Jag approved bits are used.

Ah but sir did enjoy a wide choice of fine coffee and patisserie did he not?

I thought you could get cars serviced elsewhere now and still keep the warranty as long as they use the right parts.

My XK is well out of warranty and the last interim service was £206. On the downside, the coffee is poor, there are no fancy buns and the courtesy car is frightful smile

Yes but i enjoyed all of the above niceties while paying half as much to have my previous 3.0D XFS serviced at the main stealers. (minor service).

Did the invoice had a breakdown on it so you could see where the money went?

Easy to be wise after the event but next time get a quote or estimate so you can make an informed decision. It may be that your XF being older fell into a different price category - I've seen that a few times.

All depends where it’s p-ex’d When you want rid. A MD will ‘mark it down’ without MDSH.

No doubt but how many Ks did you save on servicing while you had it? Cars can also be sole privately of course, though that seems to be going out of fashion.

I negotiated a first free service when I bought my (new to me but not new) XE, thought I'd done ok til I saw this and realised it was a 21k service interval (8k to go! Was wondering why I'd not had the Jag equivalent of a beeping spanner at me on the dash :-o

I wouldn’t hand over many £k privately anymore. Modern cars need some comeback in the shape of a warranty.

If they want to sell the car you’re buying it won’t make any difference whatsoever in today’s market.

There is no service book to stamp any more - its all electronic - so if its not been done at a main dealer it will appear that it hasnt been serviced at all (to them) in the advent of a warranty claim. Might be harder to get it repaired if all you have is a reciept from a back street garage to prove its been serviced?

Still, £450 for oil/filter & pollen filter is criminal. This is all they change - the shedule can be found on Jaguar's website.

Just booked my XKR-S in with a Main Dealer for its first service under my ownership.

As it's over 3 years old it qualifies for Fixed Price Servicing and as it was under five years old when I bought it in May, it also came with a 2 year warranty.

The fixed price for an interim service is / should be £255 all inclusive (including VAT).

It will be interesting to see how much extra cash they will try to extort out of me and how creative they are.

Although the car has only done 26.5K miles it's 5 years old in November, so this will be a 60 month / 75K mile service.

Congrats on the car. Regards main dealers, they're not all bad - I use the one in Perth and always found them to be honest with both of my XKRs. I had my current 5 liter car in there a couple of weeks ago for the same 3+ scheme interim service, 255 was the quote price and that was what they charged for that. I had them do MOT and visual inspection and got a video clip sent through with video evidence of their findings (a couple of split boots on rear balljoints).

Where is yours booked in?
