Hi All

Going to look at an XFS 3.0d in the morning. Its a late 2017 Model and I just wondered if the engine still suffers from Crank and Turbo issues like they did in the first generation XF?

Also anything else I should look out for?

Thanks in advance

They fixed the crank issue after 2011 I believe. Oil dilution seems to be the biggest issue now if you don’t let it regenerate the dpf.

Does it still apply to the X260 S? I can find loads of examples on the X250, RRS etc

Looks like they’re nowhere near as bad as RRS / XJ. I never had the dpf light come on in any of my X250 XFSs, but short journeys will still cause issues of failed regens.

I had a 2012.5my and a 15my. Both were ultra reliable. My 15.75my R-S less so, having just had £11k of engine work under warranty.

Get a copy of the service history. That’ll record any extra oil changes that have been done. Some cars seem to suffer duff sensors too, but JLR deny that.

Thanks Fatboy, puts my mind at rest a bit.

The car will do 2-3 short commutes a week followed by atleast one long run of 100miles or more. Thats why we went diesel as we cam drive hundreds of miles on the weekend.

Just didnt want the other three short days to kill it

You’re welcome. That doc above though. For real-
Green = amber
Amber = red
Red = brown.

But as long as you do the miles, you’ll be fine.

What sort of annual mileage are you doing?

2/3 short commutes + 100 mile or more journeys may not add up to that much. A petrol engine might cost very little more.

I’ve got a 25T which averages close to 40mpg (I don’t drive it hard) compared to about 45 in my previous 530d.

On 10000 miles per year the cost difference to me is £150 tops.

Not saying it’s like that for you but perhaps a 30T is worth consideration?

I have the car now, if im honest im not sure of annual mileage as its divided between cars and I dont keep track.

That been said drives to the south of France will be common and thats where it will come into its own.

Fair enough. I did a few trips to Southern France, Austria and the like in my 5 series. The oil burner did seem to be ideal for that.

Cruising through Germany at 120mph, 2500 rpm and still averaging 40+ on the whole trip!
