Hi,

I have been offered one of the limited edition 100's for not a lot of money. 90k on the clock with the usual rear arches bubbling.
Drivetrain is super, does all it should with no effort...

Question is...... Should i???

Silly question i know smile Anything i should particularly look at or check??

Many thanks in advance

Tom

I'm sure there is a buyers guide somewhere but here are a few comments from my time with an '05 model (non-SC). I owned an XJR-100 and it was a fine car, I guess this XKR would be MY 2002, only made for one year IIRC. In no particular order :

Rear arches for rust at the top, they collect damp mud there and keep it so rust ensues.

Clonk from rear suspension (bushes or shocks, CATS so watch out).

Odd noises e.g. squawk when gearbox changes (usually cured with decent trans. fluid - I used Millermatic).

Flickery HID headlights.

Octopus hose at rear of engine (hoses in general in fact).

Damaged finishers on the BBS split-rim wheels.

Steering rack can get sloppy - might indicate upcoming failure or sloppiness can indicate front subframe bushes worn.

Motorised headrests - cable gets loose so they don't rise/fall.

Serpentine belt tensioner - gets a bit corroded and the spring goes out of it so things like alternator don't run at quite full chat.

Aircon - people turn it off in winter (why - it dries damp air also) so seals dry out and vents gas so no longer icy.

DVD for the satnav if one fitted (maybe not in the XKR).

Fly-off handbrake for correct operation.

And - as always - get the diags going if you have an OBD reader. Even the ones that read standard codes can tell a tale, saved my bacon on one or two occasions.

Good luck - from the photo she's a fine looking vehicle!
